Our Thursday photo #7

Well you see it’s like this… It’s not so much that I forgot to post our Thursday photo yesterday, more that I had absolutely no idea it was Thursday! Well anyway, this one makes up for it, it’s a corker! For the first time ever I’ve managed to get both girls smiling at the same time! We’ve had a great week this week, topped off by the fact that Libby has finally decided it’s time to start using the potty. Hopefully I won’t have to buy any more cloth nappies, what we’ve got would be fine for just Lia with…

A new start

Before having Libby, I had spent nearly 10 years working in the legal profession in various guises. I loved the work and there was never any question of me doing anything other than going straight back to the same job after having Libby. Three months after giving birth, that’s exactly what happened. What I didn’t factor in was the fact that I’d be up at 5 am to feed her, leave the house at 6.30 am and be home around 6 pm. I also didn’t take into account how much I’d miss her, or how trivial work would seem when…

Thank goodness for progress

Libby’s eye operation on Wednesday really got me thinking about the way things have progressed over the years in the NHS. We got chatting to a nurse at the hospital who was telling us about the way things were when she had an operation years ago. She mentioned that in the old hospital, the hygiene standards were poor, with wooden floors virtually impossible to clean.  We also talked about the role of play specialists in children’s wards and how essential they are. Before people like this were around, I have no idea how children coped with or understood when they…

Our Thursday photo #6

This week has been somewhat traumatic for us all because Libby had her eye operation yesterday. Thankfully though it went incredibly well, her eyes are looking great and she is back to her usual self now. Even when she came round from her general anaesthetic, she was as placid and cheerful as ever. She only got upset at the hospital when she finished her yoghurt and realised there wasn’t any more. As this was lunchtime and she hadn’t eaten since the previous evening, I don’t blame her!  So here is Thursday photo #6, with Libby modelling her new, straight eyes!

Planning our ultimate garden party

As I may have mentioned (once or twice!), my dad and hubby are currently decking our back garden. It’s a lovely big area, but owing to being on a slope it was pretty much unusable. I’ve had the house for 11 years now and it has taken this long to find the money to get it done. We are also getting all our windows replaced and, at long last, getting patio doors put in. They will open out onto the decking and open up a whole world of possibilities for us and the kids. As you can imagine, I will owe…

Our Thursday photo #5

This week’s photo is of the girls enjoying the long awaited sunshine that seems to be gracing us with its presence! Yesterday was Libby’s birthday, so we left the bouncy castle up on the decking so that she could play on it again today. Of course, baby sister had to play on it with her too!  Lia has started smiling now but I suspect it will be a good few weeks before I can manage to catch a smile on camera! so for now I’m happy to have them looking pleased to be together.

Happy Birthday Libby

Yesterday was Libby’s second birthday. I can’t believe where the last two years have gone and I’m so proud of the lovely little girl she has grown into. The last few days have been really busy with the new baby, a trip to Swansea, a wedding, a job assessment for me and a hospital appointment for Libby. As you can imagine, this didn’t leave much time for baking, so I unashamedly cheated when it came to Libby’s birthday cake. I had intended to bake a train cake, and popped over to chat to my sister about it while she was home because…
