Drayton Manor War of the Worlds Fireworks

During the past 12 months, we have been regular visitors to Drayton Manor. The girls are always excited to go, but Libby has been looking forward to their fireworks display for months. It is safe to say that she wasn’t disappointed, they were spectacular! We arrived at around 3.30 pm and headed straight for Thomas Land. The queues for the rides were longer than normal because the park was quite busy. That said, I’ve never found the queues to be unreasonably long there even at the busiest of times and we managed to go on a good few rides both…

Things are slowly starting to get a little bit better around here. I mistakenly thought that I’d have a bit more time once my husband came home from hospital. That hasn’t really been the case but with half term thrown into the mix I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. We’ve had one of those weeks where we just haven’t done much. We didn’t have a car for two days because it was in the garage. We ended up spending a lot of time at home making a mess and not getting much done. We did manage to get involved in…

Halloween ideas for the whole family

I’ve never been one for celebrating Halloween. My parents weren’t really into it so I never went trick or treating as a child. But last year, Libby went over to see family to do trick or treat. She had a witches costume and of course, she also took with her what every witch needs. A lion. And despite myself, I enjoyed it almost as much as Libby did. So this year, we’ll be making a bit more effort. My husband will be at home with us, so we thought it would be a good idea to do a few things…

Things are slowly starting to improve here – my husband is finally home. He came home on Saturday and we’re slowly finding ways to make things work. Libby spends a bit of time with her dad in the afternoons to do some work on her numbers and letters. He also reads a story to each of them before bedtime so he is managing to be involved in looking after them in a small way. I have to admit I haven’t had the best week ever. We thought hubby would be home on Friday so I spent a good while on…

Eating like a Brit abroad

When I go on holiday, it’s all about the food. I know, it shouldn’t be. It should be about spending time with my family and relaxing… is it really possible to do both when you have children?? Back in the days before children, I went to some wonderful places and ate some brilliant food but as a vegetarian, it can be difficult. Take our mishap in Rome for example. I adore Italian food, particularly pizza. So all those years ago when my husband proposed (he passed me a note in the Sistine Chapel) we decided to celebrate with a pizza…

Octonauts mission at Sea Life Birmingham

Since my husband’s accident, the girls and I have just been getting by as best we could. There have been trips to the hospital every day and days out have been cancelled. So yesterday when I was given the opportunity to treat the girls to a day out at Sea Life Birmingham, I jumped at the chance and my friend was kind enough to join us to help with the girls. When we arrived, Libby and Lia were given a mission card and some stickers each and asked to help with the Octonauts mission. They have recently started to watch…

I’m a great believer in children having as much to teach us as parents as we teach them. This week has been no exception. I’ve learnt that children are masters of resilience. Grand masters actually. They’re the real deal, it doesn’t get any better. I don’t know why the past week has been so difficult for me. I’m not the one who is injured in hospital. I’m also not the one who too young to understand why her dad is suddenly no longer at home. And I’m not the one who is old enough to understand what’s going on in…
