Thomas Land: Review and Competition

We were lucky enough to be selected as ambassadors for Drayton Manor Theme Park during their 2015 season. We have been going regularly since Lia was just four months old and it is safe to say that it is the girls’ absolute favourite place. If you are a fan of Drayton Manor or would love to give it a try, keep reading for your chance to win a family pass for a day at Drayton Manor this season. Today, we were invited to the first day of the Thomas & Friends Weekends at Thomas Land within Drayton Manor. These are happening this…

Thursday photo #94

Last week was half term and we filled it with lovely days out. At the weekend, we kept things relatively calm to give the girls a chance to recover from their hectic week. We stayed local and made the most of our National Trust membership, heading to our favourite attraction. The weather was terrible, but we still managed to get out to the park. Since then, we’ve got quite nicely back into our usual routine. Libby is still enjoying nursery and Lia is loving her activities in the mornings. Yesterday I even treated them to a morning at soft play,…

To the mum who turned a blind eye

I saw your children playing together. You mums were chatting nearby. How sweet to see your girls getting along so well. Two good friends holding hands, taking turns, whispering together and sharing secrets. My little girl saw them too. She didn’t know them, but they were only a bit older than her and she was so excited to find someone to play with. She went bounding over with a huge smile on her face and made it her mission to join in with their game. I saw her copying them, trying to get their attention. Soon, they were playing a different…

5 steps to prevent neglect this mother’s day

As a mum, it is easy to fall into bad habits that result in neglect. Neglect is a strong word. If you neglect your children or your pets, you can expect to be in trouble with social services, the RSPCA, the police and any number of other agencies. They will come down on you like a tonne of bricks, and rightly so. Neglecting your partner is a slippery slope to arguments, full blown rows and a broken relationship. Neglecting your duties at work is a one-step road to unemployment. Why then, do we insist on neglecting ourselves? Mums are the…

10 reasons to rescue a pet

Once you have decided on the right pet for your family, the next step is to decide where to get it from. It is all too easy to head to the nearest petshop or find a breeder, but here are 10 reasons why you should stop and think about it. 1. Save a life Last year, over 47,500 dogs were abandoned in council pounds. This is in addition to those handed in to charities. It also doesn’t take into account other pets. On average, one unwanted dog is put to sleep every two hours in the UK, simply because they…

Isolation and humanity

Since starting to work from home when Libby was a baby, I have become gradually more isolated. Initially, my career involved meetings and a little bit of travel. As things developed, a lot more of my time was spent working alone. These days, I work entirely from home. The only time I go out for work is if I attend a press or blogging event, which is infrequent. As a result, I have very little contact with anybody outside of my immediate family. I don’t have a problem with the isolation per se, but it has made me notice a…

My love affair with Instagram

Less than 18 months ago, I tentatively dipped my toe into the water of Instagram. It was a social media platform I knew nothing about, except that it revolved around photographs. And I’m no photographer, in fact my mobile phone is my go-to camera in most situations. But still, I quite liked the idea of a chewing-gum-for-the-mind style social network where I could interact by looking at people’s photos rather than putting the effort into creating witty content and trying to engage people in conversation. After 12 months, my Instagram followers on my Plutonium Sox Instagram account were building quite…
