This week, we’re lucky enough to be spending the week at Bluestone Wales, on a last-minute holiday. I will be reviewing Bluestone separately but suffice to say, we’re all having a brilliant time. It had been quite a busy week even before we set off on holiday, with a day out at the National Sea Life Centre on Friday, a family barbecue on Saturday and a day of catching up on work and getting ready to come on holiday on Sunday. Since arriving at Bluestone, the weather hasn’t been particularly kind to us. Luckily, Bluestone is the perfect place to be…

Why I’ve banned Bing

My children don’t watch an enormous amount of television, they never really have. The main reason for that is because we are usually out and about doing things, and don’t have much time for sitting in front of a screen. I’ve also written before about my concerns over the impact of screen time on behaviour. That said, as Libby approaches her first term at primary school, I worry that I’ll be disadvantaging her if I don’t let her use technology. As a result, I invested in an iPad so that she would know how to use it, because she’ll be working…

I don’t agree with your opinion

This week, the UK voted to leave the European Union. Many of my friends are very vocal about their displeasure at this result – and I agree with them – I voted remain and I think that leaving the EU is a bad thing for the UK, as well as for myself and my family. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to hear from people who voted out. A friend of mine told me today that he had been biting his tongue about the hate-filled comments about 52% of the electorate being idiots. And why should he bite…

We’ve had a difficult couple of weeks since coming back from our stay at beautiful Blairmore Farm. As soon as we came home, we were straight back down to earth with a bang. My granddad had been very ill in hospital and we knew he didn’t have long left, and he very sadly passed away just a few days after we arrived home. A couple of days after that, my husband went into hospital for the third operation since his accident. We are sincerely hoping that this time it will work, and he will soon be slowly but surely on…

Loch Leven and Loch of the Lowes

During our week staying at beautiful Blairmore Farm, I was determined to spend some time at Perthshire’s fabulous lochs. We decided to visit two very different lochs, both of which are near to Blairmore Farm and offer plenty to keep visitors busy. Loch Leven When we packed up to go on holiday, we promised Libby that she would be able to ride her bike while we were away. Loch Leven has a lovely flat area beside the loch with picnic benches, flat paths and a little park. Perfect for Libby’s first time cycling without stabilisers on her bike. In the centre of…

The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home

My girls have loved reading with me for as long as I can remember. I enjoy reading to them every day, and seeing how their taste in books changes and develops. They are both now of an age where they can follow a basic story, ask questions about the pictures and the characters and be truly drawn into the plot. When Lost My Name got in touch to offer us the opportunity to review a personalised book for the girls, we were all delighted. Particularly when we realised that the book they wanted us to review was The Incredible Intergalactic Journey…

Inspirational Parents #14

For the latest in my Inspirational Parents series, I’m really honoured to feature a mum, and award-nominated author – Jemma Wayne. She has recently released her latest novel, Chains of Sand. 1. Tell me about the most unexpected change to you as a person or to your life since becoming a parent? Discovering that I can survive on an average of five hours sleep is definitely up there! But beyond that, I think learning that while the advent of children in no way dimmed my career ambitions – if anything it gave them greater purpose – at the same time those ambitions were overtaken, or…
