15 tips for holidaying with your dog

If we go on holiday in the UK, we want to bring the dogs with us. As soon as we get a camper van, they’ll be going abroad with us too. Not just because of the inconvenience of finding someone we trust to look after them, but because they’re part of the family. There is a quote I love from John Grogan who wrote the book Marley and Me. He says, “Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.” Luckily these days, there are loads…

With the Easter holidays edging ever closer, we’re all looking forward to a break. It seems that as the term goes on, things get busier for us all. And nothing is ever easy is it? I had intended to focus on Pinterest this week, but due to a technical hitch I’ve been virtually unable to use it. There’s no sign of it getting fixed for me either. The weekend We had a busy but brilliant weekend, heading to Bath on Saturday to visit my sister. It’s a beautiful city and really not far away. And yet we haven’t been there for…

What2buy4kids classic games collection 5 in 1

For homework this week, Libby could choose between a number of activities. One of them was to play a board game with the family. This got me thinking about the fact that we don’t play board games enough. We have snakes and ladders but Libby is ready for something a bit more advanced. So when What2buy4kids got in touch and asked me to review something from their website, I decided it was time to teach the girls to play drafts. About What2Buy4Kids I love the ethos behind What2Buy4Kids. It is a children’s gifts website that mum Lisa started because she wasn’t happy with…

Telford Steam Railway Polar Express

Over the past few years, we’ve been lucky enough to go to various Christmas experiences all over the West Midlands. I’ve reviewed most of those on the blog. But when I was writing my Christmas days out West Midlands post last year, there was one event we just couldn’t bear to miss out on. Tickets were about to sell out, so I booked ours straight away. And it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. And why am I telling you about this in March? Because the tickets for the Telford Steam Railway Polar Express 2017 have gone on sale, and…

The lessons children will never learn from homework

I’ve never really known how I felt about young children having homework. It’s a subject I’ve read a lot about and in principle, I’m not against it. Libby has been bringing a reading book home each day since starting school. We read those in the mornings before school because she can’t concentrate by the evening when she’s tired. And our 10 minutes together each morning has definitely improved her reading. But I think that’s enough. The problem with homework Libby has recently started to have a little bit more homework. Usually some basic maths or writing, always based on the…

A flavourful evening at Natural Healthy Foods Birmingham

Last night, my sister and I headed into Birmingham for the media launch of a new vegan eatery in Birmingham. Natural healthy foods already had a shop in Digbeth stocking organic, gluten free, refined sugar free, vegan food. Their new flagship store near the mailbox has a small shop. But the main attraction is the incredible eatery. The Natural healthy foods buffet I have to admit, I love a buffet style restaurant. I like the fact you can try as many or as few things as you like and eat as much as you want. The only problem I find as a…

I seem to be on some sort of conveyor belt. I spend at least 50% of my waking hours every week complaining that I’ve got too much to do. Clearly, this detracts from the time I can actually spend getting things done. And then it comes to the weekend. My husband is off work so he can have the kids and I can work, right? Wrong. Work-life balance The problem is, my family have this awful habit of doing fun things at the weekend. I know right? So inconsiderate. So I can either sit in front of a computer screen…
