My girls have loved reading with me for as long as I can remember. I enjoy reading to them every day, and seeing how their taste in books changes and develops. They are both now of an age where they can follow a basic story, ask questions about the pictures and the characters and be truly drawn into the plot.
When Lost My Name got in touch to offer us the opportunity to review a personalised book for the girls, we were all delighted. Particularly when we realised that the book they wanted us to review was The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home – the same story that Tim Peake read from space.
The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home
The story-line of the Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home follows the main character – the child who the book belongs to – and their robot friend, Hubble. We had a book each for Libby and Lia, and both girls were delighted to be the main character in the story.
The child and Hubble the robot go on a secret journey into space. When they have a close shave with a meteor, the ship’s computer gets wrecked. Unfortunately, it’s only the computer that knows the way home.
Luckily, they meet up with some colourful characters, all of whom point them in the right direction to help them get home. They are soon on a flight path back down to earth, but they still take a couple of wrong canadian pharmacy no rx turnings – and enlist the help of some more new friends – before landing back at home.
And that’s the clever part – the picture on the page that takes them home, is a satellite view of the child’s own neighbourhood. We had great fun finding our own house, then taking a look at the neighbours’ houses and seeing where Granddad lives too.
The story itself is really exciting, featuring aliens, an intergalactic zoo, a space probe, the sun, the planets, the sea, and even some lions. There was also a beautiful underlying message about love and friendship. But of course, both girls’ favourite character was themselves. I was amazed that they were happy to listen to the same story twice in a row, with the main character changing from Lia to Libby on the second reading.
I also love the whole concept of it being personalised, and of course the fact that Tim Peake has read it from space, what an amazing memento for them to keep as they grow up.
