Tea Tasting at Whittards in Grand Central Birmingham

A few weeks ago I met with the team from Grand Central shopping centre in Birmingham when I reviewed Caffe Concerto. I left there with a gorgeous goody bag and one of the things it contained was a little pot of strawberry mint tea and a tea infuser from Whittards.Since then I’ve been enjoying both the tea itself and drinking from an infuser. So when Whittards asked if I’d like to go for a tasting experience, I couldn’t say no. In fact, anybody can just drop in to Whittards and experience tea tasting themselves. So if you’re passing you can call in…

Win Brunch with Pom Wonderful

Yesterday was one of the best mornings I’ve had in a long time. As usual I was woken up unnecessarily early. Instead of attempting to snooze with two children bouncing on my head and CBeebies blaring in my ear, I got up and went for a run. It was a beautiful day and the views were quite spectacular. After my run, top chef Paul Fielding from La Belle Assiette popped over to cook us brunch. On the menu were fresh and smoked salmon for the meat eaters (not me), scrambled egg, toasted muffins, garlic mushrooms and tomatoes and baked beans.…

Chi Kitchen Birmingham – Review

On Saturday, I was lucky enough to be invited to review Chi Kitchen in Birmingham. This is a very upmarket Chinese restaurant situated on the third floor of Debenhams in the Bullring. They also have a Grab & Go counter on the ground floor of the same shop. I haven’t been to the Bullring much since I stopped working in Birmingham nearly four years ago, and had no idea that Chi Kitchen was there. However it is somewhere I am incredibly glad to have discovered and I would definitely go again. When we arrived, we were welcomed by the staff and…

The Soho – perfecting summer evenings

The Soho Juice Co. kindly sent me a cocktail starter pack for the purpose of this post. A couple of years ago, my husband and my dad undertook a huge project to build a decking across our back garden. Prior to this, the area was totally unusable for the children, due to being set onto a hill. When the decking was complete, I was determined to spend as many evenings as possible relaxing out there with a cocktail. We have a beautiful view of the hills and the nature reserve behind, and it really is a fabulous place to spend an…

BKD Mini Bakers Club: Review

Since Libby started nursery, it is rare for me to get much time on my own with her. When we do have a few hours to ourselves, one of the things we love to do is bake. Libby gets such a sense of achievement from creating something in the kitchen that everybody can eat and enjoy. That’s why we were both delighted when we were given the opportunity to review a subscription box from BKD Mini Bakers Club. They take the hard work out of baking by sending a little kit in the post, containing nearly everything you need to create…

Fit for a Queen: Fruit tart recipe

This week marks the Queen’s official 90th birthday. To celebrate, I’ve teamed up with Kitchenways to make a Royal Bake that is Fit For A Queen. Royal Fruit Bouquet I have been doing quite a bit of baking with the girls lately, and there is more to come as birthday season is still in full swing. As a result, I decided it was time for a change from cake, so I decided to make a pie instead. The Queen is often given flowers and she wears lovely bright colours, often opting for flowers on her outfits as well. So that was the…

British Sandwich Week: a recipe

As a child, sandwiches always meant some Marmite or a piece of cheese between some soggy slices of bread. It wasn’t until I got older and discovered the joys of home made bread and exciting fillings that I realised just how exciting sandwiches could be. So in honour of British Sandwich Week (8th to 14th May 2016), Central England Co-Operative have asked me to come up with a great sandwich combination and explain how to make it. Never one for taking things lightly, I’ve made my sandwich from scratch. Cheese and herb bread recipe I don’t have a bread maker, so I…
