Disney On Ice Frozen – Review

Last week, the fabulous Emma from Life According to Mrs Shilts very kindly gave us some tickets for Disney On Ice Frozen at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham. Of course, I jumped at the chance to take the girls, especially as the tickets were for the matinee performance on Sunday.

What Age is Disney On Ice Frozen Appropriate For?

We’ve always taken the girls to the theatre and I know they enjoy it. But I did wonder whether the girls would manage to sit still through Disney On Ice Frozen. Lia is 2 and a half and does struggle to sit still and concentrate when she’s tired.

The matinee performance was the ideal solution. It started at 2.30 pm and although Lia usually naps in the afternoon, she can always manage to miss that sleep if there’s plenty going on. And there really was plenty going on! I would definitely recommend Disney On Ice Frozen for children as young as Lia and even younger.

Disney On Ice Frozen – The Introduction

At the very beginning of the performance, two people came onto the rink and got everyone in the audience to join in with a little dance. This immediately gripped the girls’ attention, so when Mickey and Minnie Mouse were introduced they were incredibly excited. They were then joined by numerous Disney favourites including Donald duck, Goofy, Snow White and characters from Finding Nemo and Toy Story to name but a few.

Disney On Ice Frozen – The Story

I don’t mind admitting I’ve never seen Frozen before. Libby has never really been interested in watching it, so we’ve just never got around to it. But I was pleasantly surprised. I was impressed with the way the story moved along so quickly in the performance. There was never a slow moment or a time when the girls got distracted.

In fact, they were absolutely gripped throughout and sat perfectly still on their chairs. We were lucky enough to have rink side seats, so when it snowed in the show, we even got a little dusting of white ourselves. The girls were totally in the spirit of it but it wasn’t too scary for them either, it was pitched perfectly in my opinion.

The Verdict

The show started at 2.30 pm and finished at around 4.30 pm. There was a 20 minute interval during that time, which was just long enough for us to pop to the toilet and buy some provisions to keep us going. Throughout the performance, both of my girls were completely captivated and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Will we go again next year? Without a doubt.

Wow, it looks stunning and it sounds like a good length for little ones.
I think Frozen is a fabulous film, but it’s all been spoiled by the crappy merchandise! My kids have forgotten they ever liked the film because of all the rubbish in the shops, so there’s no way we could ever got and watch a show like this!

I went last Christmas with Alice and my niece and it was brilliant, they had several different Disney films on ice and Alice was completely mesmerised. We are going to this one in December with both girls and I can’t wait. I’m hoping Holly will sit through it! X

This does look like a fab show and so glad that your girls enjoyed it. My two love Frozen and would love something like this. Like you though I would be unsure if they could sit through it but it sounds like that there is plenty of action to help keep their attention focused 🙂

Hi Nat, I’m in love with Olaf and have been ever since I watched the film. I’d be completely star struck if I ever got to meet a real live Olaf! Disney on Ice sounds a wonderful production to see and not just for the little ones. Two hours with a break is perfect not too long, but long enough to feel you’ve been somewhere special.

I have not taken my kids to an ice-skating show so I am sure they would love this. We love Frozen and Frozen Fever so I am sure they would love it.
