When I first started trying to avoid palm oil, I found it really difficult. I was constantly searching labels and trawling websites. But luckily, since launching my palm oil free website, I’ve found loads of amazing products. As a result it ends up being easy to become complacent, falling into the trap of finding things I love and buying the same ones again and again.

Luckily, as my website has become more popular, people have been contacting me, asking me to include their products on the website. As a result I’ve ended up trying quite a few more things. So here are a few of my favourites from the past few weeks.

Wonderful Nuts

When Wonderful Foods got in touch to ask for a review, it couldn’t have come at a better time. I wrote this post about how I’m not going on a diet – but I still want to lose weight and eat healthier. Wonderful nuts consist of pistachios and almonds in various different flavours, all of which are palm oil free. These are perfect for me to graze on as I’m training for an ultra-marathon – so I need things that will fill me up and provide energy whilst still being healthy. These tick all the boxes.

Miss Organics

Skincare can be difficult when you’re trying to avoid palm oil, because it’s in EVERYTHING. So finding Miss Organics luxurious, ethical skincare was a real relief. I did a full review of their fabulous body oil and lip balm on my palm oil free website. The body oil is extremely luxurious, perfect for moisturising wet skin or for putting a few drops in the bath to make it relaxing, moisturising and aromatic.

The lip balm is equally indulgent, and I find that I only need to apply it once or twice a day. This stops the horrible chapped feeling, but I don’t find that my lips get sticky like they can with some lip balms.

Chaaboo Handmade Tea Soap

I’ve found some lovely palm oil free soaps since starting my website, but Chaaboo is a little bit different. Not only is it palm oil free, it is handmade entirely from natural ingredients. In fact the ingredients list is really simple – coconut oil, rice bran oil, shea butter, natural fragrances including cardamon and ginger – and black tea. It is made using a traditional cold-press method, retaining the goodness of all the ingredients. I personally find it very moisturising and perfect for use on sensitive skin – I even use it on the girls.

Big Skies Food Company Toffee Brittle

We recently tried the British Brittle Roasted Cashew, and the British Brittle Peanut & Chilli from the Big Skies Food Company. These are gorgeous treats that are handmade in Norfolk, using local British sugar. I love the fact that this company are so interested in ethical issues – there are no additives in their food, and only British sugar is used, reducing the food-miles of their items.

I found that the Roasted Cashew Brittle was quite rich in flavour, with the nuts complimenting the toffee well. It was a lovely way to enjoy a sweet treat that was a little bit different – I’d buy this over a mainstream toffee bar any day. But my favourite had to be the Peanut and Chilli Brittle. On first taste, I tasted the toffee and peanuts, but not much of the chilli. Then I realised there was a lovely, warming aftertaste of chilli. I would like to see a version of this that has a bit more of a kick – but that’s just my personal love for spicy food. They have some other great flavours too which I’d love to try, including roasted cashew with sea salt and black pepper.
