Swimming the channel for Aspire

There are two sorts of people when it comes to fitness. Those who can motivate themselves, and those who need a bit of a push. I definitely fall into the push category and nothing pushes you quite like a challenge. I’ve swam the Solent, done several triathlons and an ultra marathon. And for a few years, the channel has been calling to me. Aspire Channel Swim Okay, so I might not be quite ready for swimming the channel in one go just yet. But that’s not to say I won’t do it one day. In the meantime, the Aspire Channel…

Do something amazing this Christmas and #sendshoes

Christmas has come to signify a time of excess. Eating, drinking, giving and receiving more than we need. But deep down, whether you are religious or not, Christmas isn’t really about that. It’s about kindness, compassion and making time for each other. Reaching out to people to wish them well or show your support. Doing good this Christmas While social media is quiet and blogging work is scarce, I thought it would be nice to help out a charity. Not a huge charity where any help would get lost in the ether. But a small one that does amazing things,…

Charity Christmas gifts from the Poppy Shop

I’m a pretty terrible blogger. When you read a blog at this time of year, you expect to see at least a few guides to the must-have Christmas gifts. I’ve tried it in the past, but it’s just not really me. And I’m not sorry. Well, I’m not usually. When charitable donations aren’t as generous as they sound

A twist of fate, a wrong decision, a stroke of bad luck. All of a sudden, you find yourself face to face with an almighty struggle. One unpaid invoice leads to rent arrears and a mountain of debt. The big corporation and the charity I know enough about life’s cruel blows to understand that destitution often arrives through no fault of its victim. And that charities can be a lifeline in such a situation. And yet, I received an…

How Ronald McDonald House keeps families together

We walked into the communal room and the children made a beeline for a playroom and some craft tables. Volunteers from a local company were running a Halloween event for residents to make masks and decorations. One of many opportunities for children to retain some form of normality during their family’s darkest hour. What is Ronald McDonald House? Every parent knows that sinking feeling you get when your child is ill. You see their suffering, but there’s nothing you can do to help them. And so you wait, helpless, for them to get better. That feeling must be multiplied hundreds…

#RSPCAPetPeeves – my story

You may have read Pluto’s sorry tale of woe, and Jamer’s week in the life of a cat. So when the RSPCA got in touch and asked if we’d like to take part in their #RSPCAPetPeeves campaign, there was only one candidate for the role. Bubbles popped over last week to tell you all about her beauty regime, and now she’s back with a few more words of wisdom. #RSPCAPetPeeves by Bubbles Well I’ve been sent over to tell you all about my annoying habits. But of course, I don’t have any. So, I thought I’d tell you about my…
