Pik-Nik cheese sticks and dealing with mum guilt

Parenting is an eternal battle between doing your best and the guilt of feeling that it’s not enough. That doesn’t stop in the summer holidays, if anything it just gets worse. This week’s dilemma was whether to send Libby to holiday club when I didn’t need childcare. In the end, I handed the decision to her and asked her if she wanted to go. The answer was a resounding “yes, and can I have a packed lunch?” Packed lunches with Pik-Nik cheese sticks Libby’s school is incredible in many ways, not least because the food they provide is so good.…

An indoor picnic with Tesco Jersey Royal New Potatoes

This is a collaborative post.  Lia has been desperate for a picnic all week, but the weather and work have conspired against us. So yesterday, I was determined to do something about it. Despite the rain, I made up an indoor picnic. Complete with picnic basket and picnic blanket. I also made a fabulous potato salad with Tesco Jersey Royal New Potatoes and natural yoghurt instead of mayonnaise. Potato salad recipe When I was younger, I disliked mayonnaise. These days, I quite like it on some things but still much prefer natural yoghurt in potato salad. It makes a healthy,…

The health food or pizza conundrum

This is a collaborative post.  Lunchtime, and a dilemma. What I want to eat and what I should eat are rarely the same thing. I’m often on my own, so I grab something quick. On a good day, that might be some salad and couscous. On a bad day it’s crisps, sandwiches, fried stuff – all the bad food I can get my hands on. Introducing the Pizza Express Leggera pizza For lunch today, I tried out the Pizza Express Leggera pizza, available to buy from Waitrose and cook at home. Checking out the brand new YO! Sushi restaurant in Worcester

I walked into the brand new YO! restaurant in Worcester with two children who were so excited they were out of control. Is a Japanese street food and sushi restaurant that has been feeding hungry diners across the country for the past 20 years. And at last, it has opened a branch in Worcester. YO! is the…

Cutting back on salt and sugar with Tesco

This is a collaborative post. I’m painfully aware of the amount of salt and sugar in processed food. Where possible, I cook from scratch. But some days, I just need something quick and easy. Tesco challenged me to cook a family favourite dish using their reduced salt and reduced sugar products. I wasn’t allowed to tell the family that anything was different until they had eaten it. One dish that the girls always love is vegetarian meatballs with spaghetti. I know, vegetarian meatballs is such a contradiction. But nevertheless, I thought I’d try it with reduced salt and sugar. The starter…

5 tips for stress free baking with children

Some people seem to genuinely love baking with children. Unfortunately, I’m not one of them. But with two small people who love to be in the kitchen, I’ve had to find ways of coping. So here are my five top tips for stress free baking with children. 1. Say yes For me, it’s all about saying yes. They want to bake? Just doing it is much easier than arguing about it for the next month. Because they’ll never change their mind. They want to crack the eggs themselves? That’s fine. What can possibly go wrong? If they crack an egg into…

Easy baking with Craft and Crumb review and giveaway

I have written many times about the struggle I have with productivity. Working from home is so intensive that I struggle to find the time to take on additional tasks. Sadly one such task is organising birthdays. Don’t get me wrong, I want my girls to have the best birthdays possible. But they are SO demanding! When it’s my husband’s birthday, he’s happy with a chocolate cake. And I love making chocolate cake. We put some sweets on it so the girls are happy, everyone’s a winner. But when it is one of the girls’ birthdays, they want some incredible creation…
