In defence of boundaries

We have come so far from the terrible times that my dad tells me about when he was a child. He and his brothers would be beaten by the teachers simply for having a German surname. Even when I was young, it was considered acceptable for parents to smack their children who were misbehaving. These days, such punishment is quite rightly frowned upon. Increasingly, the focus is on raising well rounded, confident children. Giving them the building blocks to one day function as strong, independent adults. New Beginnings

New beginnings don’t need to be about life-changing decisions, new year’s resolutions or grand announcements. Sometimes, they can just be about stopping and taking stock. Inspirational Parents #11

The latest in my Inspirational Parent series comes from Stevie at A Cornish Mum blog. I have always admired the way Stevie has come hurtling into the blogging scene and flying up the rankings into the Top 100 at breakneck speed. This is all despite the challenges she has had to face personally during the past few years. Stevie is amazing at covering important issues like Type 1 Diabetes in a way that makes people sit up and listen. She also captures the beautiful Cornish countryside in her photos and has loads of fun competitions. If you don’t already follow her,…

Each time I write these Thursday photo posts, I look at the number and it reminds me that I really need to make a feature of them when I reach Thursday photo #100, in just five weeks’ time. I’d love to make a photo book celebrating 100 photos of these two cheeky little girls growing up together. It would also be brilliant to make a feature canvas with all of their Thursday photos on. And of course a blog post to show off my handiwork. I’m also really enjoying the weekly updates in these posts. When I started blogging, one…

Stop. Listen. Look.

Modern life. Stress, pressure, demands, deadlines, schedules. Rushing to get ready, to reach your destination. To perform duties, fulfil commitments, keep people happy. Stop. Listen. Look. Everywhere, there is love. The devoted old dog, always there. Trotting behind, waiting, hanging on your every move. Hoping beyond hope for a pat on the head, a kindly word, a treat or a walk before you leave for the day. He is a part of your life only for a short time, but you are his world. The doting mother, the kindly aunt, the romantic partner, the adoring child. Thinking of you, watching…
