Pre-school half term

Odd though it may seem, I never really realised that half term was a thing before children went to school. But pre-school half term is definitely a thing, we checked.  We have our little routines each day. We are busy every morning with activities we’ve been doing since Libby was tiny. Singing groups, playgroup, ballet and a morning a week at nursery for Libby. She also goes to my mum’s one morning a week while I take Lia to sing and sign.  This week though, everything has been different. Despite the lack of our normal routine, we’ve been hugely busy.…

Boots don’t sell…

To everyone that was shopping in our local Boots store today. Yes, I’m a terrible parent by my own admission, but that was yesterday’s post.  There are many criticisms I am happy to accept but really, the one that you think I was guilty of today. Let’s be realistic. It’s boots for goodness sake and she’s two years old.  Yes, I took the girls shopping with me and yes, I let Libby walk around the shop with a mini trolley. Letting my children down

I think that as parents, we all beat ourselves up about doing the best for our children. Sometimes, our best is all we can do but I know that for me, it will never be good enough. I know that Lia suffers in particular, to such an extent that her development is notably behind where Libby’s was at the same age. By now, Libby could point to all her body parts, even her eyebrows. She was…

Learning about siblings

When I was growing up, I was essentially an only child. My oldest sister came along when I was 10, swiftly followed by two more sisters and a brother. I’ve always got on well with my siblings and I’m immensely proud of them all.Watching them all grow up and become intelligent, kind, caring individuals has been a real honour. Libby and Lia are lucky to have such amazing uncle and aunts.  It is an odd thing though being a half sister. I wouldn’t say that we had a normal sibling relationship, purely because I have never lived with any of them,…

Are you single?

“Are you single?” Asked my two year old, as she turned on the bathroom tap.  “No.” I thought sadly. I’m about as far from single as it’s possible to be. My days of being young, free and single are firmly behind me and I am officially old, captive and taken.  But as she chattered away to me, washing her hands, playing in the water and wandering off to get herself dressed, her question sent me back to a time when the answer would have been different.  I thought about the holidays I used to have. Hopping on a last minute…
