To the little girl who knows she is beautiful

You are wiser now than all the inspirational people you’ll meet on your great journey through life. Immersing yourself in the world around you, you live in the now and do whatever makes you happy. You have the confidence to wear what you feel comfortable in and know that you are always beautiful both inside and out.

To the little girl who knows she is beautiful

When you encounter negativity, you deal with it perfectly. A comment about your messy hair or your Christmas hat in August incites a giggle of hilarity. What a funny joke to suggest that the way you look could matter to anybody but you. A snide remark about a mistake you made must be someone’s way of helping you to do it better next time. So you flash them a smile and carry on, not giving the comment a second thought.

And occasionally you meet someone with an outlook so bleak that they try to dampen your spirit. Discouraging your sense of adventure or your yearning to travel. You meet them with a wistful smile and the sympathy they deserve. Their tales of woe serve only as an invitation to cheer them up.

Never change…

As you grow and learn, every moment, experience and encounter matters. Everyone you meet will change you and shape you into the person you become. Some will teach you academic ability and self-belief. They will guide, nurture and trust you to fulfil your amazing potential. Things you never thought possible will become second nature.

Others will teach you kindness and compassion through their words or their actions. One day you’ll need help and somebody special will be there to guide, protect or just hold you. These are the people you need in your life. They offer their opinion but don’t impose it, show you the way but don’t insist you take that path.

When you start to doubt yourself…

In the coming years, you’ll become aware of societal norms and expectations. The warped perception of beauty and normality that others impose. The media, your peers and even strangers will try to make you doubt yourself. That’s when you need to look deep inside and remember the little girl who taught me so much about beauty.

A review of a day out at Eastnor Castle

You are as wise now as you’ll ever be. Because today you know that you are beautiful both inside and out. And that’s the most important lesson you’ll ever learn. When self doubt creeps in – which it will – think of everyone who has ever inspired you. Those who taught you, believed in you, supported you and helped you. And then remember the greatest teacher of all. The little girl who knew she was beautiful.

Oh my goodness she is beautiful. I love this, I hope the world doesn’t iron out of some of my son’s quirks too. This is a lovely post and I hope your daughter reads it some day too.

This is such a beautiful post and so very true. I’m pleased to say that, at 12 and 10, my younger two kids still have confidence and self-assurance, but I know it’s only a matter of time before they lose that 🙁
