Streaking into January

To say I’ve overindulged during the festive period would be an understatement. I don’t even dare stand on the scales because I’m worried about what I’m going to see. 

I know that the natural solution would be to go on a diet, but I’m just no good at those. I usually enter myself into a race at around this time of year, not to race in now but one that doesn’t take place until the summer. It gives me something to aim for and keeps my fitness going through the rest of the winter.

The problem is this year, I have no idea how much training I’m going to manage to do because some days I’m lucky to get to bed at 2 am as it is, so fitting in race training just isn’t going to be possible. 

So here is my solution; streaking. 

Oh no, not that kind of streaking, I’m not taking my clothes off. These are my running clothes and I’m putting them on. If you are into health and fitness, you’ve probably heard of a run streak or an exercise streak. 

So my aim for January is to exercise every day. Even on a day where I have no time at all, I’m sure I can manage to fit in a ten minute run. To make me do it, I’ve asked hubby to join in as well. There is no way I’ll miss a day if he doesn’t, we’re too competitive. 

We have also agreed that we will only be drinking at the weekends and I’m going to cut out junk food on weekdays too. I’ll be eating what I want at weekends though, it makes it so much easier to stick to it if I know I’ll get a treat after a few days of behaving myself. 

So, here’s to my last few days of lounging about and bring on January. Who knows, maybe I will make it a longer lasting habit. If anyone else is interested in joining me for a January streak, just leave me a comment and I’ll set up a way of recording our achievements.

        It was lovely until I caught my little boys cold. Feeling better today though thankfully. I’m more of a diet kind of girl than exercise. Find it easier to count the calories than find time to exercise… but I will be doing a bit of a diet come January to shift the festive lbs. xx

    Hi! Yes I think this is a great idea! Exercise streaks – 10 mins a day. Will be tough for me too, as I start back to work – with a 4 month old – and hubby working shifts!! Will try, try, try… x

      Brilliant, they say that the best time to start an exercise streak is when you’ve got loads on, because it can only get easier as time goes on 😉 I will add you to the list.x

    Great idea. Trying to fit in running hasn’t worked out for me as an every day thing. I was taking Ollie out for a run at 7am, but with the darkness closing in over the winter and late disturbed nights with the boys I struggle to wake up with any energy at all. Since I try to make sure the boys are outside for at least an hour a day at least that’s some walking. I’ve also started doing sun salutations every morning which the kids love to join in, but what I’m lacking is the higher intensity stuff to give my heart a work out. I’m playing it nonchalent atm, chomping the naughty stuff like cheese and crackers and waiting for the spring before I ramp up my diet and exercise.

    Great Idea and good luck. This has got me thinking that I can surely find ten minutes a day.

    The thing that has put me off is that it is dark at around 4pm and I wouldn’t feel too safe. But I can just run around the block in ten minutes. Perfect.

      Hi Lisa, thank you for your comment. I’ve found the concept of just doing 10 minutes quite liberating. If I set out to do at least 10 minutes, I often end up doing more just because I feel like it. That’s a great reason to exercise.x
