Creating a dream home

Since buying my house over 12 years ago, I’ve never managed to do all the things I’d love to do to make it my own. I’m hoping that 2016 will change all that and that by the end of the year, I will be creating a dream home.

We desperately need a new kitchen. And I don’t mean just a few new units or white goods, I need a whole new kitchen. The thing that puts me off getting that done at the moment is the fact that to really get the kitchen the way I want it, I’d need to put an extension on.

We have the space to extend, but it’s just not financially viable at the moment. So, do I have a relatively small kitchen that I’m a bit happier with or do I wait? It would seem a shame to rip out a perfectly good kitchen in a few years when I’m ready to extend, but I’d be equally reluctant to put up with our current kitchen for a moment longer than I have to.

We had our bathroom done last year and it’s the room in the house that I am most happy with. That said, if we do get around to doing the rest of the house, I’d want a truly beautiful bathroom design. We currently have a separate bathroom and toilet, which makes the bathroom a bit small. I’d love to incorporate the two rooms and fit a gorgeous, deep spa bath that I could sit in with a glass of champagne.

We had our back garden decked a couple of years ago and I just love it. It was previously on several levels and completely impractical for young children. Now, we have a huge area where they can ride their bikes. We have built in benches and a table and it is the perfect sun trap.

That said, the rest of the garden just isn’t ideal. We’ve got a lovely, big, usable area at the front of the house. I need to take down some huge conifers and put up a six foot fence to make the most of the area. This will mean that the children can have a swing, slide and trampoline in the garden. So whilst it’s not essential, it would definitely make their lives a little bit more fun.

Other areas

The whole house needs new floors, our electrics need doing and it really could use a good lick of paint. None of this is immediately achievable since my husband’s accident, but I’m hoping that by the end of 2016 we’ll be in a much better position to get the house the way we want it.Badezimmer im Dachgeschoss : Rustic style bathroom by von Mann Architektur GmbH

Look at that spa! Absolutely gorgeous! I’m sure you will achieve what you want to, just take things one day at a time and it will come.
