Why you can’t trust the Guardian on Palm Oil

When I first became aware of the palm oil issue, I was pleased to see that the problems caused by the industry were regularly raised in the Guardian newspaper. But as with most things, there always comes a time when you have to take a step back and remember that you can’t believe everything you read in the press. At the moment, fires rage in Indonesia, filling neighbouring countries with a polluting smog, destroying rainforests and killing birds and animals in their millions. I found it odd that this was the time the Guardian chose to run an article about palm oil…

Our Thursday Photo #71

This week, by all accounts, has been rubbish. Losing Jamer was the worst possible start to the week on Monday. Sadly she stepped out in front of a car and died almost instantly. Because it’s not long since Soxa died, Libby understood immediately that she wouldn’t see Jamer again. She was devastated, as we all were. This week has also seen hubby going back to work and our lovely holiday seems like such a long time ago. Libby has started nursery which she is loving. We get great reports on how she’s getting on and the staff are really positive.…

Goodbye little friend

They say friends come in all shapes and sizes, You certainly were proof of that. I never thought we’d all fall quite so in love, With such a funny old cat. Wherever we were, you’d be there. At home or out for a walk. You’d come to visit our relatives, Such tales to tell if cats could talk. Playing was your specialty, But you also loved a good fuss. You’d happily make friends with strangers, But your favourite was being with us. Don’t tell me that children don’t need pets, I can easily prove that they do. We’re so sorry…

Back to books

It is quite a well-known fact that Libby and Lia’s love of watching nursery rhymes on the computer drives me bonkers.  I don’t know whether it’s the fact that they’re so obsessed with them, the tantrums they throw when I stop them watching or whether quite frankly it’s just the fact that they’re so flipping annoying. Either way, I’m always looking for distractions that they prefer instead of being in front of the screen.  Libby loves to play doctors and is usually quite happy to play on her own with a teddy bear.  Both girls enjoy play dough so that’s…

Four years ago this week, we headed off to New Zealand, newly married.  If I’m honest, the wedding was a little bit of an afterthought.  We had to do it that weekend so that we could use our holiday to watch the Rugby World Cup as a honeymoon. I’m lucky enough to have some friends in Christchurch who got tickets to the England games through their local rugby club.  As England were due to be based in Christchurch, this worked out perfectly.  Very sadly, Christchurch wasn’t in a fit state to host matches after the terrible earthquake that devastated the…
