When I was asked to review the Vileda Windowmatic Window Vacuum Cleaner, my first thought was that it wouldn’t really get used much in our house. You see the thing is, cleaning the windows just takes such a long time. Glass cleaner, cloths, water, more cloths, streaky windows not much better than when you started. And repeat ad infinitum.
Window cleaning made easy
Nonetheless, I was persuaded that the Vileda Windowmatic Window Vacuum Cleaner was worth having. That it would transform the way I washed my windows. For me the transformation would be from never washing the windows to washing them at all.
So, I took the Vileda Windowmatic Window Vacuum Cleaner out of the box, glanced briefly at the instructions and put it together. There was mention in the instruction book of using your usual glass cleaner. But the dog was too busy chewing a bone to find the time to come and lick the windows for me, so I just grabbed a bowl of water and a cloth instead.
The intention was to give the window a wipe with water and a cloth and use the Vileda Windowmatic Window Vacuum Cleaner to remove the water. This leaves the windows streak-free after cleaning. Here is my before and after photo from using just water and a cloth, followed by the Vileda Windowmatic to remove the excess water.
The way this result was achieved was slightly different to the method I had anticipated. I had intended to test the product on Wednesday morning, which is when Lia always goes over to my mum’s house. But as she was full of cold, Lia decided to stay at home with me.
Window cleaning made fun
As is customary where children are concerned, Lia immediately strolled over as soon as she saw water and a cloth. So what actually happened was that Lia wiped the windows with the cloth and water. She also spilt water all over our wooden floor and splashed it liberally around the room. So, I turned to the Vileda Windowmatic Window Vacuum Cleaner and attempted to set to work getting rid of the water.
But of course, this wasn’t acceptable either. Lia wanted to do that too. So, she grabbed hold of it and immediately worked out how to turn it on. First she got the water off the window where she’d wiped it and then she cleaned up the small ocean she’d created on the floor. Then she asked to play that game again. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you our new window cleaner.
About the Vileda Windowmatic Window Vacuum Cleaner
The Vileda Windowmatic is similar in size to a regular handheld vacuum cleaner. It’s lightweight enough for Lia to be able to use and has a 100ml water container. It cleans for up to 60sqm or 20 minutes before it needs recharging. The power unit comes with it and you need to charge it before use.As well as taking water off the windows and leaving them streak-free, it is also great for spills. In our house, water gets spilt a lot. It is so much easier to grab the Windowmatic and clean it up, rather than messing about with cloths or kitchen towels. It is also perfect for removing condensation from the mirror. Ideal for after you’ve had a shower and you want to use the mirror for putting makeup on.
Because the neck of the Vileda Windowmatic is flexible, you can reach most surfaces. The suction extends across the neck, so even if you have to squeeze it into a corner, it is still effective. When you’ve used the Windowmatic, you can take out the water container and put it into the dishwasher to clean it.
Vileda Windowmatic Window Vacuum Cleaner – The Verdict
I was really impressed with this product. It wasn’t something I thought I’d get much use out of, but removing the water after cleaning really does leave the windows sparkling. I also really like its other uses, a water spillage has suddenly become much less of an issue in our house. Now I’ve got it, I couldn’t do without the window vac and I’m actually considering buying one for my dad for Christmas.
Please note, I was given the Vileda Windowmatic free of charge for the purpose of a review and I was compensated for my time. However all views, opinions and surprisingly helpful children are my own.
