Toddling dogs and teenage cats

Have you ever noticed the striking similarity between dogs and toddlers or between teens and cats? I’m not talking appearances here, although my staffie does look rather like a stroppy toddler when she sulks. But just think about the mannerisms. If you don’t believe me, here are a few short experiments that you can conduct at home to see for yourself. Toddling dogs 1: Tantrums Give a ball to a toddler and an identical ball to a dog. After five minutes, take both balls away and watch carefully.  Bottom lip out, temper tantrum. Walking back and forth to where you…

Hogwarts in the snow with toddlers: Review

Last week, we were lucky enough to go to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, London to see Hogwarts in the Snow. I have always loved the Harry Potter books and was really impressed with the film adaptation of it so the studio tour appealed to me. However, my girls are very young. They have both watched little bits of the Harry Potter films and quite enjoyed them, but they’re not old enough to be really into them. I did wonder how much they would enjoy the studio tour. There was another problem too – my husband is still unable to…

Our Thursday Photo #56

Chaos has reigned as usual in our house this week. More chaos than normal in fact.  My dad has been hard at work doing our bathroom for us. Last weekend, we had no bathroom from Thursday to Monday. The bath wasn’t fully functional again until yesterday morning. Nonetheless, the bathroom is now well on its way to looking fabulous. It seems the few days of being one of the great unwashed will…

I have to keep them busy in the mornings so that they sleep in the afternoon, otherwise my work time goes out of the window.  Our default…

Betrayed by a family member

Yesterday, we had one of those incidents you hope will never happen.  I suppose when you mix babies, toddlers, dogs, cats and adults together in a confined space, something is bound to go wrong.  Someone who has been part of the family for years lets you down in the worst possible way. Yesterday, when my back was turned for a moment, I heard a blood curdling scream from the baby. By the time I got back into the room, she was crying. It was that awful, serious sort of crying where she was so upset that she couldn’t actually cry.…
