Greek destinations with the best beaches

Collaborative Guest Post

Greece boasts as many as six of Europe’s top 50 beaches, according to global travel experts. From dramatic cliffs to pink sands and hidden coves, every island offers something unique. If you’re ready to swap grey skies for crystal waters, these destinations deserve a spot on your travel list.

Zakynthos: Gerakas Beach

Gerakas Beach offers wild beauty without the crowds, and it shines even more with the famous Navagio (shipwreck) Beach still closed. This long sandy cove lies in a protected marine park, providing nesting grounds for loggerhead turtles. It suits families and nature lovers alike, with shallow, clear waters for young swimmers.

Drive about 30 minutes from Zakynthos Town along scenic coastal roads until you reach the car park, then stroll down to the sand. Bring your own refreshments – there’s no bar here, only a remote, healing clay cliff on the southern tip that locals once used for natural facials.

Crete: Elafonissi Beach

Elafonissi feels like a dream with its pink-tinted sand and shallow lagoons. It’s perfect if you’re travelling with kids because the water stays calm and shallow for metres out.

Hire a car from the capital, Chania, and set off early; the drive takes about 90 minutes and winds through scenic mountain roads. Pack a picnic or grab fresh snacks from the beach kiosks, then wade across to the tiny islet for a quieter spot.

If you want to make a day of it, stop at Chrysoskalitissa Monastery on your way back for a stunning slice of local history.

Milos: Volcanic coastlines and crystal waters

Milos’ volcanic origins have carved surreal landscapes, from the moonlike rocks of Sarakiniko to the hidden caves of Kleftiko. Rent a small boat or join a guided tour to reach these spots, as many are only accessible by sea.

Snorkelling here is a must – the water is so clear you’ll feel like you’re floating in glass. After your swim, wander through the fishing village of Klima and watch the sunset paint the colourful boathouses.

Milos stays quieter than Santorini or Mykonos, so you’ll enjoy a more laid-back vibe without sacrificing beauty. Book an all-inclusive holiday for even less stress, especially if you’re travelling with kids.

Lefkada: Porto Katsiki & Egremni

Lefkada’s beaches look like they belong on a luxury travel brochure. Porto Katsiki is the star, with turquoise waters backed by sheer white cliffs. Arrive early because parking fills up fast, and bring snacks – facilities are limited.

If you’re up for a challenge, head to Egremni. It’s less crowded but involves a steep descent, so wear sturdy shoes. Once you reach the bottom, you’ll find a long stretch of sand where the Ionian Sea sparkles under the sun. After a day here, drive to Vasiliki for a relaxed dinner by the harbour.

Which stretch of Greek coastline sparks your wanderlust? Book your getaway early and see what all the fuss is about in 2026.
