10 Christmas days out: West Midlands

*** UPDATED FOR 2017! New post here: https://plutoniumsox.com/whats-on-west-midlands/21-west-midlands-christmas-days-out-2017/ *** UPDATED FOR 2016! New post here: 10 West Midlands Christmas Days Out 2016 I’ve always found it a little bit difficult to get in the mood for Christmas. I just think it starts a bit too early in the shops and it’s a difficult transition from scrooge to Christmas fairy. Since having children, the one thing that has helped me to get into the spirit of things is a good day out with decorations, carols, a cheeky glass of mulled something or other and of course, the man in red. I’ve researched the…

Drayton Manor War of the Worlds Fireworks

During the past 12 months, we have been regular visitors to Drayton Manor. The girls are always excited to go, but Libby has been looking forward to their fireworks display for months. It is safe to say that she wasn’t disappointed, they were spectacular! We arrived at around 3.30 pm and headed straight for Thomas Land. The queues for the rides were longer than normal because the park was quite busy. That said, I’ve never found the queues to be unreasonably long there even at the busiest of times and we managed to go on a good few rides both…

Octonauts mission at Sea Life Birmingham

Since my husband’s accident, the girls and I have just been getting by as best we could. There have been trips to the hospital every day and days out have been cancelled. So yesterday when I was given the opportunity to treat the girls to a day out at Sea Life Birmingham, I jumped at the chance and my friend was kind enough to join us to help with the girls. When we arrived, Libby and Lia were given a mission card and some stickers each and asked to help with the Octonauts mission. They have recently started to watch…

Free activities for toddlers in Birmingham

We always enjoy a day out to Birmingham and the girls are particularly excited by the fact that we go on the train. It does often turn out to be quite an expensive day out though, what with paying to get in to places and buying lunch. My usual trick for bringing down the price on a day out is to take a picnic. But with rather unreliable weather at the moment, I decided we’d do free activities and treat ourselves to lunch. Musical picnic So today we went for a different sort of picnic, with the girls taking part…

Fun days out and Fundraising

Today we headed to Drayton Manor for the day with my sister who is heading back to Uni next week. We are proud to be ambassadors for the park and always enjoy it there. There is just so much to do that a full day is never enough. We arrived just before 11 am, went on ride after ride, had lunch by the lake, rode on both Rosie and Thomas, played at the park and went on some more rides. Both girls were exhausted by the end of the day, it’s such a brilliant day out. We even had some…

Ten Free Summer Holiday Activities

I may be a little late to the party here, after all my children are only young. So here is my latest observation on the summer holidays – they’re really, really expensive! Without our usual activities going on, we’ve been out and about every day, having an amazing time. Unfortunately, my bank balance is not happy. So I’ve been brainstorming things to do that are completely free. Actually, it was quite easy to come up with ten free summer holiday activities. I’ve included activities for both fine weather and foul. It is the Great British summer after all. 1. Build…

A day out in Birmingham

This morning, we all headed off early for a day out in Birmingham. Working there made me realise what a great city it is. There’s always something going on and children are particularly spoilt. Our first stop after getting off the train today was the Town Hall to see the AMAZING Three Little Pigs musical. This was a bit of a shock to me. I knew the girls would enjoy it, but I had no idea that it would be enjoyable for the grown ups too. The music is catchy, actors are engaging and it’s only 55 minutes long so it…
