Celebrating Britain’s Superpowers

This is a collaborative post. In homes up and down the country there are families with hidden talents. You might even call them superpowers. When npower researched our everyday superpowers, dad dancing and lip-syncing were ranked highly among the things that make Britain great. But there are other things too. Mums growing vegetables, dads baking cakes. Cats keeping the children entertained and dogs cleaning the floor after every meal. In fact there are so many hidden talents out there that npower wanted to celebrate them. They even roped in Peter Andre to help. What’s your superpower? So what’s your family’s superpower?…

Inspired Lines with Great Western Rail

This is a collaborative post. Great Western Railway (GWR) have done some research and found that in Britain, over a third of us feel we’ve lost our creativity as adults. I find that really sad and GWR decided it was time to do something about it. Great Western Rail Inspired Lines Competition The Great Western Rail Inspired Lines competition aims to get us all putting pen to paper. They’re asking us to write a short poem of a MAXIMUM of 50 words. The poem should be inspired by views from the train window on a GWR line. To help promote the competition,…

Golden Bear Sleep Tight All Night Puppy – Review

This is a collaborative post. Lia has never been a brilliant sleeper. As a baby, she didn’t sleep through until she was 7 months old, when I discovered the power of white noise. Since then, she’s been sleeping through most nights, but takes a long time to get to sleep and generally wakes at least once in the evening. When I was offered the opportunity to review the Golden Bear Sleep Tight All Night toy, I was delighted. We’d stopped using white noise over a year ago, but Lia’s sleeping never quite resolved itself. As well as being a cute…

Managing everyday parenting stress

This is a collaborative post. Being a parent is stressful. There, I said it. My little beautiful, sweet little angels are more difficult to deal with than any psychotic manager, high-flying career or high-maintenance team I’ve ever worked with. But that’s just the nature of parenting. We no longer just have ourselves to worry about. I want to give my children the best life I can. It’s important to set a positive example and be a good role model. Keeping my temper is critical because if I’m too stroppy with them I could damage them for life. Feeding them, making sure they’re in suitable clothing and…

The advantages and disadvantages of freelancing

This is a collaborative post. For the past couple of years, I’ve been increasingly enjoying working as a freelancer. From my point of view, the advantages massively outweigh the disadvantages and if I’m honest, I don’t think there’s any going back to a ‘normal’ job for me now. But I do sometimes feel that freelancing is rather misunderstood. Not least by the people that think I’m just being paid for sitting at home. If only. There is work to be done and there are certain parts of it that can be tedious. So I wanted to produce an honest guide…

Travel Zen Yoga at Airparks Birmingham

Last week, I was asked to take part in a really fun campaign for Holiday Extras, which involved Lia and I heading to Airparks Birmingham for a spot of yoga. The campaign was based on the fact that opinions are so divided in Birmingham over whether holiday travel is the start of the holiday, or a stressful nightmare. In a survey conducted by Holiday Extras, 35% of people felt that the journey to the airport marked the start of the holiday, whilst 39% felt that it was the most stressful part of their holiday preparation. So, travellers were invited to find…

Our Nickelodeon top 5

Since joining the NOW TV blog squad, Nickelodeon has been a bit of a revelation. We are really enjoying the variety of the programs and the fact that over on their website, there are games they can play that are associated with the shows. The girls are still quite young for some of the shows on the main Nickelodeon channel, but luckily on NOW TV, we also have the option of watching the Nick Jr channel. For Lia in particular, this has really sparked her interest. Predominantly due to the presence of a certain Dora the Explorer. So, here are…
