Friday Feature #12

Far be it from me to suggest that I am years ahead of the British market, or a trend setter in any way. But just as a one off, I’m pretty pleased with myself.  Because this week, Friday feature #12 is about a real up and coming product on the British market. And one that I bought in New Zealand nearly 7 years ago.  These recycled beer bottle glasses are sold by the Go Eco Store. The whole ethos of the store is that its gifts are recycled, fair trade and ethical. But the glasses are my personal favourite. There are…

Friday Feature #10

My Friday features on wonderful, ethical companies are swiftly becoming one of my favourite posts to write, and this latest one is no exception. Allow me to introduce you to the Amazonas Brazilian Tarp Hat Company. These hats are made from recycled tarpaulins from water trucks. They are then handmade in local villages in Brazil, so every hat is completely unique.  They are environmentally friendly and look fantastic. The material they are made from makes them so durable that they are a hat for life, and yet the prices are incredibly reasonable. Many of them come in at under £30 and…

The company I want to introduce you to in today’s Friday feature make a product that ticks so many boxes for me.  I am becoming increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of the way we eat. That is a whole different post that I intend to write over the weekend, but I am making a concerted effort to change my purchasing habits at the moment.  Processed snacks are one of the worst offenders for containing nasties such as palm oil. The environmental impact of this is totally devastating in so many ways, as you are probably aware. But did you…

Friday Feature #8

Anyone who has started up a new business will understand how difficult it is to get things going on a budget. Sadly, this can often mean cutting corners in terms of both quality and ethics.  That’s why I was honoured to be asked to feature a brand new company who only use eco-friendly, pure and natural ingredients.  If you use scented candles or oil burners or are looking for something for mother’s day (like me!) then this is for you.  Tarts With a Heart make handmade, eco friendly soy wax melts. You use them like oils in an oil burner, placing…

Friday Feature #7

Today’s Friday Feature spotlight is on a fabulous Social Enterprise that gives ALL of its profits to charity.  I make no secret of the fact that I’m not a huge fan of fashion. Unfortunately for them, this extends to my children. I can’t remember the last time I bought baby clothes. Lia has pretty much had to put up with Libby’s second hand clothes. Many of these were already second hand by the time Libby got them.  This isn’t because I’m a terrible parent who neglects my children (I am). But because I object to spending extortionate amounts of money…

Friday Feature #6

This week’s Friday feature is all about a company called Aduna, who are aiming to use the health and beauty market to benefit the communities that produce their products.  The word “superfood” has integrated itself into our vocabulary recently enough to mean that the spell check on my computer doesn’t recognise it.  And yet, it now an everyday term. Most of us eat superfoods as part of a balanced diet, making the most of their superior qualities to enhance our health and wellbeing.  But do we stop and think about where they come from? I’ve never really put that much thought into…

Friday Feature #5

This week, I have discovered the most fabulous fashion brand. As you may be aware, I’m not the most fashion conscious person in the world. I only buy fashion from either companies whose ethics I genuinely support and believe in (no sweat shops and definitely no animal cruelty) or from charity shops.  I don’t buy from charity shops for financial reasons but for moral reasons. I believe in reusing, recycling, upcycling and giving money to worthy causes.  When I do buy clothes, I love the surfing style. It suits me, there’s no pressure to look perfectly groomed and immaculate and…
