Ralph Court Gardens Halloween 2026 Review: Spooky Evening Adventures in Herefordshire
Tickets to Ralph Court Gardens Halloween Event gifted for an honest review
If you’re looking for Halloween events in Herefordshire, Ralph Court Gardens transforms its unusual themed gardens into a spooky attraction every autumn. We visited the Ralph Court Gardens Halloween evening event in October 2026 to experience the illuminated pumpkins, spooky characters, haunted house and brilliant light show set to music against the backdrop of the house.
The evening event is different from the daytime Halloween trail, with extra scares and new attractions for 2026. It’s a particularly good option for families looking for things to do in Herefordshire over October half term, especially if you have older children or teenagers who enjoy Halloween.
In this Ralph Court Gardens Halloween review, I’ll share our experience of the event, the attractions we enjoyed most, what we thought of the Halloween restaurant menu and whether we’d recommend visiting with teenagers.
I visited with my husband who is notoriously difficult to please, my 12 year old who freaks out at anything scary and my 14 year old who hates everything. Imagine my surprise when we ALL loved the event, spending two hours strolling around, taking photos and enjoying the attraction. The Halloween menu from the restaurant was delicious too.

About Ralph Court Gardens
Ralph Court Gardens is a family attraction in Herefordshire – located in Edwyn Ralph. Set in the grounds of a rectory built in 1850, it is home to 15 themed gardens inspired by places around the world, mythology and fantasy.
Rather than being a traditional botanical garden, Ralph Court combines planting and water features with imaginative displays, interactive attractions and unusual themed areas. You can explore everything from an Italian piazza and an African jungle to Alice in Wonderland and Dinosaur World, where life-size animatronic dinosaurs bring the prehistoric landscape to life. This makes it ideal for visiting as a family, because there really is something that everyone will love.
The gardens host seasonal events throughout the year, with Halloween and Christmas being particularly popular times to visit.
The Halloween event takes place during October and offers two different experiences. Daytime visits are designed to be suitable for a wider range of ages, while the evening event adds atmospheric lighting, more intense scares and additional entertainment after dark.
Where to find Ralph Court Gardens: Ralph Court Gardens is at Edwyn Ralph, Bromyard, Herefordshire, HR7 4LU.

Ralph Court Gardens Halloween Event 2026
The Ralph Court Gardens Halloween event runs from 3rd October to 1st November 2026 during the day, with separate evening sessions from 22nd to 31st October. Do check the opening dates because early in the season, they may only open Wednesday to Sunday.
The daytime opening hours are 10am to 4pm. The evening Halloween event runs from 6pm to 8.30pm, with the restaurant reopening at 5pm on event evenings.
The daytime and evening experiences have different atmospheres, so it’s worth choosing the right session for your family.
There were a few little ones there while we were there in the evening but if you have young children that get scared easily I’d definitely go for the daytime event. Older children and teens on the other hand will LOVE the evening event. Being after dark, it’s got a bit of an edge to it with some spooky attractions that aren’t open during the day.

Daytime Halloween at Ralph Court Gardens
The daytime Halloween event is aimed at families who want spooky fun without quite as many frights as an after-dark visit.
Attractions include the singing pumpkin trio, joking ghosts, Count Dracula, the witches’ cookery school, the graveyard flower seller and the Gremlins show. There’s also a Halloween quiz for children, with a spooky surprise gift for those who complete it.
New for 2026 is Chewin Charlie, another character to look out for as you explore the gardens.
The daytime session is worth considering if you’re visiting with younger children or prefer to see the displays in daylight. You’ll still find plenty of Halloween-themed scenes and characters, but the evening event offers a different experience once the gardens become dark.

Evening Halloween at Ralph Court Gardens
We visited the evening Halloween event, which runs from 6pm to 8.30pm. This is when Ralph Court Gardens takes on a very different character, with illuminated pumpkins guiding visitors around the gardens and atmospheric lighting transforming the displays.
I highly recommend arriving towards the earlier part of the evening. We spent nearly two hours there and I would have been disappointed if we’d run out of time and missed things.
Evening attractions include:
- Pumpkins, lights and inflatables illuminating the gardens.
- A haunted house with spooky surprises.
- The alien scanning pod and cosmic-themed attractions.
- Jock the Sleeping Giant and his friend Bobo.
- A spooky graveyard featuring Count Dracula.
- Dinosaur World and its prehistoric creatures by spooky torchlight
- Mr Bubble Burp’s Halloween comedy routine.
- A spectacular Halloween light show featuring the gothic house, lights, smoke effects and Halloween music.
New for 2026 is the Doctor Victor and Frankenstein laboratory, where visitors can encounter the doctor’s creation as part of the spooky evening experience.
There are plenty of different scenes to discover as you move around the gardens, with a mixture of characters, interactive attractions and visual displays. We all loved Victor and Frankenstein, the haunted house and the dinosaurs. The gremlins show was fun too and my husband was definitely taking notes on the dad jokes from the characters in some of the displays.
We found the garden to be relatively quiet. There were no crowds, although we did stand and watch some of the shows with a few other families. I tried and failed to book a table at the restaurant, but they still managed to find space for us. Considering the garden is quite small, I was amazed at how well it soaked up the visitors to this popular event.

Is Ralph Court Gardens Halloween scary?
The answer depends on which session you choose and how comfortable your family is with Halloween scares.
The daytime event is designed to be suitable for all ages, with playful characters and family-friendly spooky displays.
The evening event is more intense, with darker surroundings, a haunted house and additional scares. The atmosphere is part of the experience, and some attractions may be frightening for younger or more sensitive children.
My girls found the Doctor Victor and Frankenstein display quite scary – but only in that exaggerated frightened way that teenagers behave. It’s definitely not going to give them nightmares, but it does feel more aimed at older children and adults. I absolutely love finding things that are aimed at that age group, everything seems to be targeted at little ones these days so I really appreciated the effort that Ralph Court Gardens have put in to include the grumpy teens.

How much does Ralph Court Gardens Halloween cost?
Prices vary for the Halloween daytime and evening events, with family tickets available as well as separate adult and child tickets.
You can find the latest details and booking information on the official Ralph Court Gardens website. Advance booking is recommended, particularly for popular evening sessions.
Ralph Court Gardens Restaurant
One useful feature of Ralph Court Gardens is that there’s a restaurant on site, so you can make an evening visit part of a longer family outing rather than having to find somewhere else to eat beforehand.
During the Halloween evening event, the restaurant reopens at 5pm, an hour before the gardens open for the evening attractions. There’s a special Halloween menu alongside food and drinks.
The restaurant also serves food during daytime opening hours, with lunches, lighter options, homemade cakes and other treats available at different times. Its usual offering includes seasonal dishes made using homegrown produce where possible.
If you’re planning to eat before the Halloween event, check the menu and consider booking a table in advance. Arriving early should also give you more time to enjoy your food before heading into the gardens.

Our restaurant experience
We decided to eat dinner at the restaurant before heading into the gardens. I’ve always liked the restaurant there because they use vegetables grown in the gardens as well as other locally sourced products.
The Halloween menu is brilliant fun, including Vampire’s Cobweb Soup, chilli con carne on a bed of maggots, tasty brains and a mega head banging burger. There’s also a children’s menu and many of the adult mains are also available in smaller portions for children.
The chilli con carne on a bed of maggots (rice) is also available in a vegetarian version. We all decided to order this and all enjoyed it. The flavour was great and it included plenty of fresh vegetables and was arranged in a way that looked fabulously Halloweeny.
Having visited Ralph Court gardens several times now, I can confirm that I have continued my unblemished record of being entirely incapable of leaving without ordering a cake. My husband and the girls all went for the Pumpkin spice cake which they all demolished and apparently it was delicious with a carrot-cake style flavour.
Personally, I couldn’t resist the chocolate ginger tiffin. This was absolutely divine, complete with cherries and a biscuit base.
Visiting Ralph Court Gardens Halloween with Teenagers
Finding October half term and Halloween activities that appeal to older children and teenagers can be tricky. So many events seem to be aimed at young children, while others concentrate on intense scare mazes that aren’t suitable for everyone.
Ralph Court Gardens offers a mixture of themed displays, unusual characters, lighting effects and spooky attractions. The evening session is the one I’d look at first when planning a visit with older children.
The haunted house, Frankenstein laboratory, alien encounter and after-dark atmosphere give the event a different feel from a traditional daytime garden visit. There are also plenty of unusual displays to discover as you explore.
If you’re planning to visit with older children or teenagers, consider the following:
- Choose an evening session: The illuminated pumpkins, darker gardens and spookier attractions create a different atmosphere from the daytime event.
- Check the scare level: Some attractions are designed to frighten visitors, so consider whether your teenagers enjoy that sort of experience.
- Allow time for food: The restaurant reopens at 5pm, before the evening attractions begin at 6pm.
- Arrive early: We spent nearly two hours there even with my grumpy teen, so I’d highly recommend making sure you’re there by around 6.30pm at the latest, and by 5.30pm if you’re going to eat first so you don’t run out of time.
- Dress for the weather: This is an outdoor attraction, so warm layers and suitable footwear are sensible for an October evening.
- Check the event details before travelling: Opening times and ticket availability can vary by session.
My two girls will definitely be recommending this event to their friends and would encourage other high-school kids to visit as well.
It’s also worth knowing that Ralph Court Gardens is extremely accessible. The paths are flat and fine for wheelchairs and pushchairs. We managed to visit right in the middle of a storm, so some of the paths did have slight puddles. That said, people were easily able to access all the gardens both on foot and in wheelchairs.

What We Thought of Ralph Court Gardens Halloween 2026
It’s actually years since I’ve taken my children out for Halloween. I love family days out, but they’ve just outgrown them. If I ask them to come with me to do something fun, Libby would rather go out with her friends and Lia would prefer to rehearse with her rock band. But it turns out, that’s just because the things I wanted to go to weren’t really aimed at them.
Our highlights
- We’d all recommend making sure you at least get cake in the restaurant, even if you don’t go for a full meal. The food is delicious.
- Head to the Italy area of the gardens to see Frankenstein and Doctor Victor. This is a definite not-to-be-missed attraction. It’s brand new for 2026 and we all loved it.
- My girls asked to go into the haunted house for a second time. It’s brilliant.
- Lots of the exhibits tell jokes. Leave your husband at any one of them to keep them out of trouble, but do expect awful dad jokes to be regurgitated in the car on the way home.
- Look out for Chewin’ Charlie – when it says that he won’t appreciate being woken up, he’ll show his displeasure!
- Head to the dinosaur area – they’re quite eerie after dark!
- Don’t ask me why but teenagers seem to find it particularly exciting to stand in a coffin. Make sure you make time for this delight.

What was it like for families?
This was the best event we’ve been to with older children. That said, I could see that the little ones who were there were enjoying it too. Personally, if mine were still little or I was going with my niece and nephew, I’d pick the daytime experience which is less scary.
The thing I like the most about this as a family attraction is that there really is something for everyone. Wheelchairs and pushchairs can go around the gardens and there are toilet facilities for everyone too. The daytime event is ideal for younger children but they’ve spared a thought for the miserable teens too, with the evening event being perfect for them.
Would we recommend Ralph Court Gardens Halloween?
We would absolutely recommend Ralph Court Gardens. It’s such a unique attraction, there’s really nothing else like it. I often suggest it to people who live much further afield because I can’t think of anywhere else that is quite so good for the whole family.
Overall, the Ralph Court Gardens Halloween event offers a different kind of seasonal family outing, combining themed gardens with spooky characters, illuminated displays and evening entertainment. Whether it’s the right event for you will depend on the ages of your children, how much they enjoy Halloween scares and what you want from an evening out.
