10 Christmas days out: West Midlands

*** UPDATED FOR 2017! New post here: https://plutoniumsox.com/whats-on-west-midlands/21-west-midlands-christmas-days-out-2017/ *** UPDATED FOR 2016! New post here: 10 West Midlands Christmas Days Out 2016 I’ve always found it a little bit difficult to get in the mood for Christmas. I just think it starts a bit too early in the shops and it’s a difficult transition from scrooge to Christmas fairy. Since having children, the one thing that has helped me to get into the spirit of things is a good day out with decorations, carols, a cheeky glass of mulled something or other and of course, the man in red. Drayton Manor War of the Worlds Fireworks

During the past 12 months, we have been regular visitors to Drayton Manor. The girls are always excited to go, but Libby has been looking forward to their fireworks display for months. It is safe to say that she wasn’t disappointed, they were spectacular! We arrived at around 3.30 pm and headed straight for Thomas Land. Octonauts mission at Sea Life Birmingham

Since my husband’s accident, the girls and I have just been getting by as best we could. There have been trips to the hospital every day and days out have been cancelled. It does often turn out to be quite an expensive day out though, what with paying to get in to places and buying lunch. My usual trick for bringing down the price on a day out is to take a picnic. But with rather unreliable weather at the moment, I decided we’d do free activities and treat ourselves to lunch. Musical picnic So today we went for a different sort of picnic, with the girls taking part…

Giant Lego trail at Slimbridge

Today, we spent a lovely morning on the trail of the amazing giant Lego figures at WWT Slimbridge. We were lucky enough to be joined for the day by an fabulous local photographer. The weather was not kind to us, but nonetheless we had a lovely day, as we always do at Slimbridge. I think I have mentioned before that Lia is rather a big fan of ducks. This  makes Slimbridge her ideal day out. For Libby, anywhere outdoors, especially where there is a park, is great fun. Slimbridge is relatively local to us and it’s one of those places that we…
