Wow, what a day

Today has been another hectic yet fantastic day at Bluestone National Park. We started off the morning with messy play for both children. Of course, the idea was that they could get messy. All the children got messy, within reason. Only my two took it to this extreme.  The messy play was great, everything was edible and there were a variety of things to do including painting, non-Newtonian fluid (cornflower solution), glittery things, jelly, custard and water.  Libby took it all very seriously, as she tends to do.  Lia also had fun, causing both mess and chaos in her own…

We’re on an adventure!

This morning, for the first time since having Lia last May, I had three whole hours to myself when I wasn’t working. As you can imagine, I used my time wisely, enjoying a spa at the Bluestone National Park resort in Pembrokeshire.  On arrival, I had a short consultation before being given a luxurious robe, towel and slippers and being shown to the changing rooms to get into my swimming costume to use the spa facilities.  The changing rooms were so luxurious I had to take a quick photo. I spent an incredibly relaxing two hours in the two steam…

The drama queen

A few months ago, a friend of mine suggested a trip to the theatre. No, not a nice, peaceful, cultured evening out without the children. A trip to the theatre to watch amateur dramatics aimed at children, with our respective toddlers in tow.  Hellish, you might think. But surprisingly, Libby absolutely loved it. The only problem we had was a complete meltdown when the play finished (Libby, not me. I thought it was crap). So we’ve been going every month since then, and the novelty hasn’t worn off. Libby has always been shy, really shy. Whilst other children run around causing…

Dear Sarah, in answer to your question…

A few months ago, you asked me whether I’d changed since becoming a  mum. I’ve never been much good at answering a question off the cuff, so I’ve been thinking about the question ever since. And now that you’re pregnant Sarah, I guess it’s time to answer.  The short answer, of course, is yes. I am unrecognisable in every way from the person I was before falling pregnant. Let’s start with the way I look.  I always made a bit of effort with my appearance, wearing makeup every day. I used to get my hair done and keep myself fit. These days, I…

The little things

I have never been keen on the consumerism associated with Christmas. Without wishing to sound ungrateful, I’m not particularly enamored with either giving or receiving gifts. It always seems a little bit false.  Gifts tend to be things that are bought for the sake of it, unless there is actually something that someone really wants or needs, in which case I am more than happy to buy it for them. The point is though, I don’t really care what time of year it is, if I know there is something that somebody wants and I can buy it or make it for them,…
