A gift for the person who has everything

There’s always that one person at Christmas isn’t there? For me, it’s my dad. It’s not that he’s ungrateful for the presents we buy him, he’s just honest. No, he doesn’t want anything. He doesn’t need anything. He has everything. So, we guess and buy him something we think he’ll like. He doesn’t. And he’s honest about it. So, we resort to buying him alcohol. Not ideal, but at least he’ll drink it. Introducing Jord Wood Watches For once, this Christmas was different. My dad has always loved things made of wood. A visit to the Antarctic North Pole at Sea Life Birmingham

It’s a bit of a contradiction isn’t it, the Antarctic North Pole? But head to the National Sea Life Centre this week and you’ll find Santa in his North Pole Grotto. But wait, are those penguins? Christmas illuminations at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Strolling through the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the children’s eyes were like saucers. I listened as they whispered to each other: “This is amazing, we’re in fairyland!” Arriving in fairyland at Birmingham Botanical Gardens When we arrived at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, we were greeted by a small fairground. The helter skelter, carousel and mini-roundabout were joined by a couple of small food stalls. The girls had a ride on the carousel and we enjoyed a mulled wine before heading for the illuminated trail. As soon as we set foot on the trail, the lights were simply beautiful. As we looked…

The health food or pizza conundrum

This is a collaborative post.  Lunchtime, and a dilemma. What I want to eat and what I should eat are rarely the same thing. I’m often on my own, so I grab something quick. On a good day, that might be some salad and couscous. On a bad day it’s crisps, sandwiches, fried stuff – all the bad food I can get my hands on. Introducing the Pizza Express Leggera pizza For lunch today, I tried out the Pizza Express Leggera pizza, available to buy from Waitrose and cook at home. These were created to be both light and tasty. And…

Wrapping up Christmas with Colour and Fun

Well that, as they say, is a wrap. School is finished for the year and we head into the Christmas holidays. But for us, it’s bigger than that. As we walked away from school for the last time, it was the end of an era. It was the last time I’d ever pick up my daughter from those gates. The gates my mum picked me up from all those years ago. Because next term, they will be in a brand new school. The long Winter holiday As we walked away from school, I had mixed feelings. Sadness for the old…
