Things to do in Staffordshire May half term 2025
With May half term 2025 rapidly approaching, it’s time for a list of things to do in Staffordshire. Lots of attractions have events taking place this year and others are reopening for the summer. From family trails to fun days, there’s lots to see and do around Staffordshire. If your dog would like to join you for some half term fun, check out my post about dog friendly days out in the West Midlands, which includes Staffordshire.
This post covers the Staffordshire area only. If you are looking for May half term days out in nearby counties, please see below:
Alton Towers
Whilst there’s no particular event taking place in May half term 2025 at Alton Towers, the theme park is open all week – and they’ve got a brand new ride. The Toxicator lies in the Forbidden Valley and it’s ready to turn you upside down, create a vortex to make you dizzy and spin you around in a whirlwind. Alton Towers are describing it as the ultimate thrill. If this doesn’t sound like your sort of thing, don’t worry. They have plenty of rides for a younger audience too, particularly in cBeebies Land.
Dates: Open throughout half term.

For May half term, there’s an 80s party including live entertainment, longer opening hours and a fireworks finale that takes place on 31st May. The park will be open until 8pm every day of half term, and until 9pm on 31st May.

National Forest Adventure Farm
There’s a bubble bonanza at the National Forest Adventure Farm this May half term. This is a brand new event, with SamSam the Bubblemman who holds multiple Guinness World Records for his bublbe magic. Look out for bubble shows and take on the longest outdoor tubing slide in the UK. As usual, visitors can also enjoy tractor and trailor and barrel stampede rides, visit the animal barns and enjoy indoor and outdoor play areas.

National Memorial Arboretum
The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire is a beautiful place to visit any time of year, but during the May half term they have some fun, family-friendly activities planned. This year, there’s a wartime theme. Travel back in time to 1945 and take on an assault corse, follow an outdoor trail and enjoy arts and crafts. The Stick Man outdoor trail is still at the NMA as well, and young visitors will also enjoy the play areas, including a sensory playground. Entry to the NMA is free, but visitors need to pay for car parking. They advise booking both your visit and parking in advance.
Dates: 26th to 30th May 2025.

Statfold Country Park
Statfold Country Park is open this May half term, including its new attraction – the National Fairground Museum. This is a collection of vintage rides, some of which are the last of their kind in operation. Visitors can also enjoy a ride on the narrow gauge train and explore the railway museum. Younger visitors will appreciate Toby’s Barn play and climb, a soft play area and children’s indoor climbing wall. There’s an outdoor play area full of diggers as well as a children’s play park.
Dates: 24th May to 1st June 2025

Trentham Estate
A stunning landscaped garden and parkland, the Trentham Estate is home to a wide range of outdoor activities. From boat rides on the lake to adventure playgrounds, there’s something for everyone. Stroll around the gardens, ride the miniature train, hunt for fairies or go on a wildlife cruise. There don’t appear to be any special events on for May half term, but it’s always worth a visit.
Dates: Open every day.

Trentham Monkey Forest
Monkey forest is a great day out, especially for animal loving children. Walk through the monkey enclosure where 140 Barbary macaques stroll around freely. There’s even a primate-themed play area for little ones to enjoy. Whilst this isn’t a full day out, it’s well worth a visit and can be combined with a trip to Trentham Estate.
Dates: Open every day.

Cannock Chase
This Forestry England site in Staffordshire is a brilliant day out for all the family, including the dog! Take bikes and enjoy the bike tracks for all ages and abilities. Follow the Gruffalo sculpture trail or treat your dog to a run around the dog agility course. There’s a great children’s play area and you can even book in to do Go Ape. This can be a full day out with a café, bike hire and toilet facilities available. Better still, it’s free to visit and you only have to pay for parking.
