Connected devices and online security

This is a collaborative post.  We all know that familiar sinking feeling. When the laptop that doubles as a lifeline starts to play up. Slowing down, becoming unreliable. It starts to crash frequently and then one day, nothing. You can’t switch it on, a virus has wiped the data and thrown you out. Sometimes it’s reversible, but not always. Online security of connected devices Did you know that, just like computers, connected devices are vulnerable to security attacks? According to a recent survey by McAffee, 45% of people in the UK will be gifting tech gadgets this Christmas. 22% will…

Charity Christmas gifts from the Poppy Shop

I’m a pretty terrible blogger. When you read a blog at this time of year, you expect to see at least a few guides to the must-have Christmas gifts. I’ve tried it in the past, but it’s just not really me. And I’m not sorry. Well, I’m not usually. But when the Poppy Shop got in touch and asked if I’d include them in my Christmas gift guide, I suddenly felt terrible that I didn’t have one. So, here are the gifts you need this Christmas. All profits go to charity and the items themselves are pretty awesome too. The Christmas…

Thursday photo #187

At last, it feels as if there is a light at the end of the tunnel this term. Unlike many schools, the girls break up for Christmas next week. The festive days out are well underway, I’m spending my usual amount of time avoiding Christmas shopping and haven’t yet bought any cards. The nativity went without a hitch and next week, we’ll be thinking about putting up the tree. Age was not an affliction, rather an opportunity to embrace the finer things. A warm bed, a slow walk and the excitement of being reunited with loved ones. Embrace youth like a dog Every sunrise brings a new adventure. Spring from your bed ready to face the day. Run, play and love with the boundless enthusiasm of a puppy. Fill every moment with excitement, until you can take no more. Then sleep,…

Christmas at Warwick Castle

The children sat on the floor in a circle, looking up at Santa. Each one hung onto his every word, captivated by his stories of reindeer and jingle bells. The room was decked with Christmas trees and elves stood beside him. Warwick Castle has so many tales to tell about the chequered history of Great Britain. But for today, time stood still as Father Christmas explained how he and the reindeer deliver a present to every child on Christmas Eve. Stories with Santa at Warwick Castle The Great Hall at Warwick Castle is decked out for Christmas with a 20…

Win a PAW Patrol Sea Patroller

This is a collaborative post. To mark the launch of the PAW Patrol Christmas special on Nick Jr. UK on 11th December at 5pm, I’ve teamed up with Nickelodeon UK & Ireland to bring you an amazing competition. If you read the title of this post and immediately had the PAW Patrol theme tune in your head, there’s a good chance you’re a parent with young children. So, it follows that they’ve probably asked for a PAW Patrol toy for Christmas. The Sea Patroller perhaps? In fact, that’s not just a good guess. British newspaper readers have voted this one…

Adam Speaks at National Trust Croome

As the sun set over Croome, coloured lights shone on the Adam Speaks Tree House art installation. The project paid tribute to the influence designer Robert Adam had on the estate. But the beautiful landscape combined with the colours of nature seemed to insist on a nod to Capability Brown. The Adam Speaks project The project began with a search for an emerging artist. Under the guidance of national artist Hew Locke, the successful applicant would create an exciting new artwork. The theme would be the influence that Robert Adam had on Croome. The estate itself is developing according to…
