So, barbecue season is upon us! Oh no, my mistake, it isn’t. But it should be, and I’m feeling unusually optimistic that it will be soon! Last summer, our barbecues were impromptu, disorganised and, quite frankly, a bit crap. The title of my blog post isn’t big, it isn’t clever. It isn’t inventive. This is a blog post about running. Uphill. Nearly two years ago, I ran a half marathon quite quickly by my standards, I finished in 1:51. A few weeks ago, Libby took her first unaided steps. Only six or seven steps, but she did it quite a few times during the course of a week. Since then, we’ve had a few steps here or there but she really seems to have lost her confidence.  We do loads of walking practice every day (at her request). She even walks around the block just holding one of my hands. We have bought her a little rucksack that doubles as reins and for a while, she was quite happily walking around with one of us holding onto the rucksack…

The dynamic of my extended family changed for good about two weeks ago when my 14 year old brother experienced a life-changing event. Nothing too dramatic for the rest of the human race but for a teenager, it was the end of the world as he knew it. For the rest of the family, it was a shock to say the least.
