Cutting back on salt and sugar with Tesco
I’m painfully aware of the amount of salt and sugar in processed food. Where possible, I cook from scratch. But some days, I just need something quick and easy. Tesco challenged me to cook a family favourite dish using their reduced salt and reduced sugar products. I wasn’t allowed to tell the family that anything…
Finding the joy in reading
Society puts a huge pressure on young children to learn to read. Very early on in school, they start recognising letters, piecing together words and eventually reading them out loud with the correct expression and punctuation. Books come home and it’s a parent’s job to listen to their child read. Encourage them when they’re right,…
The sound of silence
Knock, knock, knock. Muuuummm, mmmmuuuumm, Can I come into your room? Can I have the iPad? Will you read me a story? Where’s my onesie? Is it breakfast time yet? I close the laptop with a sigh. It’s 6.03 am and I thought (stupidly) that at this time I would get some peace and quiet….
The lessons children will never learn from homework
I’ve never really known how I felt about young children having homework. It’s a subject I’ve read a lot about and in principle, I’m not against it. Libby has been bringing a reading book home each day since starting school. We read those in the mornings before school because she can’t concentrate by the evening…
Family adventure checklist [AD]

Whether it’s climbing trees in the grounds of a National Trust property or searching for creatures in rock pools, there’s an adventure around every corner. Sometimes, it’s difficult to put your own…
Budget vs premium car tyres: All you need to know [AD]
This past fortnight has been a complete nightmare for us when it comes to vehicles. First, there was the car. Our main family car had an intermittent fault for months. Every time we took it to the garage though, the fault miraculously disappeared. When it was plugged into the diagnostics machine, nothing was wrong with…

Hi there- sorry for your loss, take care
Thank you Sharon.x
So sorry to hear that 🙁 When our old dog Molly died we used to still hear her thumping up and down the stairs at my folks house for months afterwards. It felt like she was hanging on for us to not feel so sad. I know that sounds mental, but there’s something special about old dogs I think. Hope you’re ok xxx
Aw bless thanks Maz. Strange that you still heard Molly after she’d gone. Snoop was a great dog and we will all miss him, especially my mum as she has had him for the last few years.xx
