A family tale of triumph over adversity
Aren’t families amazing? I grew up with dad’s stories about his side of the family and even as a child, I was never bored by them. Because their tale was quite remarkable and it started in a little village called Oberharmersbach in Germany’s Black Forest. The meeting When my dad’s great grandfather, Anton, was a…
Bother that cat
If you have ever read the Mog the cat books by Judith Kerr, you probably recognise the phrase “Bother that cat”. When Libby was quite little, my sister bought Mog the Forgetful Cat for her because she loved cats and at the time we didn’t have one. I always had a yearning to have another cat after our…
Why haven’t you taught me swear words?
The question caught me off guard. “Mum, why haven’t you taught me any swear words?” My first thought was self-congratulatory. I’m not adverse to the odd swear word here and there, so raising a child to seven years old without teaching her a single one is somewhat noteworthy. My next thought was why on earth…
The Empty Seat
The middle-aged lady sat in the living room of her upmarket apartment and tapped her fingers on the glass coffee table. She looked at the empty seat again. The police officer was late. In fact he was so late he clearly wasn’t going to bother coming. It was nearly a week now since her car accident…

HIBS100 Homesense Christmas Party Birmingham
I stepped off the train at Birmingham New Street and fought my way though crowds of tipsy shoppers at the Christmas market. After a brief pause in Starbucks to change into my cripplingly beautiful shoes, I headed to the Lost and Found for the HIBS100 Homesense Christmas party. Not knowing anybody who was going, I arrived alone and…

Hi there- sorry for your loss, take care
Thank you Sharon.x
So sorry to hear that 🙁 When our old dog Molly died we used to still hear her thumping up and down the stairs at my folks house for months afterwards. It felt like she was hanging on for us to not feel so sad. I know that sounds mental, but there’s something special about old dogs I think. Hope you’re ok xxx
Aw bless thanks Maz. Strange that you still heard Molly after she’d gone. Snoop was a great dog and we will all miss him, especially my mum as she has had him for the last few years.xx
