This time of year is always a bit depressing. The urge to stay inside to escape this grey, wet weather is almost overwhelming. But it’s so important to wrap up warm and get out there anyway. There’s nothing like a brisk walk in the cold air to blow away the cobwebs. And there’s nothing like moaning children to ruin it.

Introducing Wet Wednesdays

A few months ago, Wet Wednesdays kindly sent us some wet weather gear for the girls. Theoretically, we shouldn’t have got much use out of it for a few months. It was August after all. But true to form, the British weather didn’t realise it was supposed to be sunny. So the girls have been wearing their Wet Wednesdays gear ever since.

The Walled Gardens at Croome National Trust in Worcestershire, West Midlands | Croome Walled Garden is the largest walled garden in Europe. It has a hot wall with furnaces, tunnels to explore, a pond and several wells. There are lawn games for children to play and for them, it is like exploring a secret garden. The walls give the garden a microclimate similar to that in the Loire Valley. This is a fascinating example of a historical garden that is a real adventure for the whole family.

And then the autumn arrived and the temperature dropped. We still get outdoors for days out, walks and bike rides and the girls are loving their waterproof fleece lined coats and trousers. Libby does Forest School once a week and insists on wearing her fleece lined dungarees with her coat. They’re perfect for keeping her warm and dry and they look lovely too.

Of course, the clothing has been through the wash a few times. One day, Libby came home from Forest School covered from head to toe in mud. Luckily, these come up as good as new after a whizz around in the washing machine. They also dry really quickly, so she was back in them by the following day.

They’ve also been spectacularly useful for the park. I know it’s me being miserable, but I love nothing more than taking the girls to the park in the rain. There’s never anybody there, they can play on the equipment and slide around in the mud and I can be ignorant and not make small talk with anyone. Perfect. And with their dungarees and coats on, we don’t have to go home and dry off after the park because the clothes underneath are dry as a bone.

  11. Lovely post 🙂 Waterproof dungarees are the best thing ever. We’ve had Toby fall face first in a huge puddle when he was a toddler and come out totally dry under his waterproof coat, dungarees and wellies. Hard to find normally, so great this company makes them.
