Not going on a diet

Over the past few months, my weight has been bothering me a bit. A few times, I’ve decided it was time to go on a diet, but something always gets in the way. A birthday, a meal with friends or just a nice bottle of cider on a Friday night. And that’s why I’m not going on a diet. I know lots of people do fabulously well with meal replacement or low calorie diets, but they’re really not for me. So, I tried to eat a bit more sensibly – I decided I needed a lifestyle change rather than a…

The Malvern Spa: Review

The Malvern Spa is situated in the picturesque town of Malvern in Worcestershire – one of the most beautiful towns in the UK, set at the foot of the rolling Malvern Hills. Where Malvern is concerned, I might be just a little bit biased, but I think you’ll agree, it is rather beautiful.  Arrival at The Malvern Spa The Malvern Spa boasts a large car park with ample space. Whilst this was the first time I’ve been for a spa day, I have visited on a few occasions as their café with free WiFi is a great place for business meetings.…

The health benefits of work-life balance

Blood pressure is often cited as a factor associated with your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.  It is also widely accepted that exercise is a key factor in lowering blood pressure. And over the past few days, the European Society of Cardiology has revealed the results of a study about daytime sleeping.  It turns out that napping during the day can lower your blood pressure significantly. In turn, this lowers your risk of having both a heart attack and a stroke. And yet, when it comes to both sleep and exercise, life tends to get in the way. I know…

Why don’t I want to run?

Serious question, and I am hoping someone out there has the answer.  Lately, my exercise levels have gone through the floor. There is a genuine lack of time reason for this, but there is also a genuine bout of laziness.  I’m not trying to make out that this is the first time this has happened to me. I definitely go through stages with exercise. But I recognise my weakness, so at any other time I make sure I enter an event to make me train:  I am reluctantly inclined to agree with my husband about the fact that I’m constantly…

Dear waistline, I miss you…

Back in early November, we bought a packet of mince pies and decided that it was time to start our Christmas eating. So, Christmas came and went and we had our trip to Bluestone booked for last week. So of course, Christmas eating continued until the end of the holiday. And then it was the weekend, who wants to eat healthily at the weekend?  But, today is Monday. Christmas is finally over and it’s time to reacquaint myself with my waistline. Yes, I know. That’s two months worth of Christmas. If I didn’t stop now I’d have to keep it up for the whole…

Wow, what a day

Today has been another hectic yet fantastic day at Bluestone National Park. We started off the morning with messy play for both children. Of course, the idea was that they could get messy. All the children got messy, within reason. Only my two took it to this extreme.  The messy play was great, everything was edible and there were a variety of things to do including painting, non-Newtonian fluid (cornflower solution), glittery things, jelly, custard and water.  Libby took it all very seriously, as she tends to do.  Lia also had fun, causing both mess and chaos in her own…
