Things to do in Staffordshire May half term 2026

With May half term 2026 rapidly approaching, it’s time for a list of things to do in Staffordshire. Lots of attractions have events taking place this year and others are reopening for the summer. From family trails to fun days, there’s lots to see and do around Staffordshire. Alton Towers
Thrill seekers are in for a treat this May half term at Alton Towers. Twilight at the Towers takes place throughout the week, with the park remaining open until 8pm so visitors can enjoy the rides for longer. There’s plenty of time to check out the classic thrill rides like Nemesis Reborn and Wicker Man. Don’t forget to try out newer rides like the Toxicator and pay a visit to CBeebies land for their brand new Bluey here come the Grannies junior coaster. Head to the Bluey Live show to see Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and Chilli live.

Drayton Manor
There’s no particular event taking place at Drayton Manor for May half term 2026, but it’s always worth a visit. With over 50 rides and attractions, it’s a fun day out for thrill-seekers and younger children alike, with everything from adrenaline-fuelled coasters and Viking-themed rides to the hugely popular Thomas Land – Europe’s only Thomas & Friends themed area with 25+ rides and attractions. Beyond the rides, families can explore the 15-acre zoo, meet hundreds of animals, enjoy live entertainment make a full break of it with the on-site hotel.

National Forest Adventure Farm
For a fun-filled May half term adventure, National Forest Adventure Farm is packed with family-friendly activities to keep little ones busy all day. This May half term, they’re celebrating their 15 year anniversary. With soft play, jumping pillows, adventure zones, mega slide mountain and the chance to meet farm animals, it’s an ideal day out for families looking to mix outdoor fun, imaginative play and themed entertainment this half term.

National Memorial Arboretum
Make the most of May half term with a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum, where families can enjoy a mix of outdoor adventure and creative activities in beautiful surroundings. This year’s half term programme invites children to explore the grounds with Arbie the Owl on a summer-themed i-Spy trail, enjoy storytelling sessions, and get hands-on with drop-in arts and crafts inspired by nature. Little ones can also tackle the popular Stick Man trail, collect stamps in the new Explorer’s Passport, and burn off energy in the outdoor play areas. With free entry and plenty of space to explore, it’s a lovely low-cost day out for families wanting fresh air, fun and a little imagination this holiday. Most activities are free, but there’s a small charge of £2.50 for the i-Spy trail.

Statfold Country Park
Statfold Country Park makes a brilliant school holiday day out for families, especially for little train lovers and adventurous kids. This year, they’re celebrating the National Fairground Museum’s first birthday. Hop aboard for unlimited rides on the heritage railway and miniature train, explore the woodland trail, and discover the impressive Roundhouse Museum packed with steam and diesel locomotives. There’s plenty for younger visitors too, with Toby’s Barn soft play and climbing zone, mini golf, outdoor play areas, vintage fairground attractions and seasonal themed activities throughout the holidays. With cafés on-site and a mix of indoor and outdoor fun, it’s an easy all-weather option for a full family day out.

Trentham Estate
A stunning landscaped garden and parkland, the Trentham Estate is home to a wide range of outdoor activities. From boat rides on the lake to adventure playgrounds, there’s something for everyone. Stroll around the gardens, ride the miniature train, hunt for fairies or go on a wildlife cruise. There don’t appear to be any special events on for May half term, but it’s always worth a visit.

Trentham Monkey Forest
Monkey forest is a great day out, especially for animal loving children. Walk through the monkey enclosure where 140 Barbary macaques stroll around freely. There’s even a primate-themed play area for little ones to enjoy. Whilst this isn’t a full day out, it’s well worth a visit and can be combined with a trip to Trentham Estate.

Cannock Chase
This Forestry England site in Staffordshire is a brilliant day out for all the family, including the dog! Take bikes and enjoy the bike tracks for all ages and abilities. Follow the Gruffalo sculpture trail or treat your dog to a run around the dog agility course. There’s a great children’s play area and you can even book in to do Go Ape. This can be a full day out with a café, bike hire and toilet facilities available. Better still, it’s free to visit and you only have to pay for parking.

Rudyard Lake
Located in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Rudyard Lake is a stunning reservoir surrounded by woodland and hills. Visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities, including boating, fishing, and cycling. During May half term, visitors can enjoy water sports, ride the steam train and make the most of the great food and drink options at Rudyard Lake. Website: Rudyard Lake.
