The Darkest Dark – Review

The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield is by some distance the most inspirational children’s book I’ve reviewed. That’s not least because the author is an actual astronaut! About Chris Hadfield Chris Hadfield is regarded as one of the most accomplished astronauts in the world. He has been to space three times and was Commander of the International Space Station for five months on his most recent mission. In the back cover of the book, there is a little message from Chris and an excerpt from it reads, “The dark is for dreams – and morning is for making them come true.” And…

Thursday Photo #125

This week seems to have lasted for ages. Not in a bad way either, last Thursday just seems like a long time ago. We spent a lot of time outdoors at the weekend, planting our lovely vegetables from Rocket Gardens. It was so lovely to let the girls run around, burning off steam. Our Week Libby had her swimming lesson at the weekend which was a resounding success after the disaster of last week. At last week’s lesson, Libby had discovered that she could sit on the floor of the swimming pool. This was clearly the best thing ever and she…

Inspirational parents #20 – Papa Tont

Tony is a dad blogger who I’ve only recently discovered. The thing that instantly drew me in when I read Papa Tont is Tony’s honesty. He covers emotive topics that parents need to read, but not many are willing to open up about. The other thing I find rather refreshing about Tony is that he is unashamedly glum. When I asked him to feature in this series, he was adamant that there was nothing inspirational about him. This theme continues within the interview with his inability to admit that he’s ever achieved anything great. But aside from all his other achievements I…

Golden Bear Sleep Tight All Night Puppy – Review

This is a collaborative post. Lia has never been a brilliant sleeper. As a baby, she didn’t sleep through until she was 7 months old, when I discovered the power of white noise. Since then, she’s been sleeping through most nights, but takes a long time to get to sleep and generally wakes at least once in the evening. When I was offered the opportunity to review the Golden Bear Sleep Tight All Night toy, I was delighted. We’d stopped using white noise over a year ago, but Lia’s sleeping never quite resolved itself. As well as being a cute…

Rocket Gardens – Review

Last week, we were lucky enough to be sent a Large Vegetable Garden (Autumn Winter) to review from Rocket Gardens. The idea behind Rocket Gardens is that they take the hassle out of growing your own food. They do the tricky bit for you – growing the plants from seed into a small seedling that is ready to go straight into the ground. When our large vegetable garden arrived, it consisted of hundreds of tiny plants. They each had their own little bit of compost but they weren’t in pots. Instead, they were all packed into a cardboard box full…

Unleashing your inner chatterbox

I’ve always been amazed at how people’s personalities can seemingly adapt to their situation. When I was younger I was pretty shy. Not just that, but I wasn’t a particularly strong person. People being unkind bothered me. Walking into a room full of people I didn’t know bothered me. I even got nervous going to the bar to buy a drink. But as I got older, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I went to university, lived abroad and eventually got a job that required a massive amount of confidence. Both confidence in myself and in dealing with…

Inspirational Parents #19 – Mum of Three World

I’ve been reading Sarah’s blog for ages and I have to admit it’s one of my favourites. What I love about Mum of Three World is that Sarah’s family is nothing like mine. Her children are much older and their schools and activities are wildly different to the stage we’re at. And yet, I’m captivated every time I read it. As well as being an amazing blogger, Sarah is a freelance writer, social media manager and super-mum to three fantastic children. When I asked her to take part in this feature she said she didn’t think she was inspirational enough. She is…
