I’ve always been a serial over-committer. Do you want to do this? Yes, absolutely. Let’s do it. There’s never much of a thought process. Can I do it? Am I committing to a one-off event or months of training? Those thoughts only ever occur after I’ve said yes. It frequently leads to some brilliant adventures. It definitely leads to a chaotic lifestyle. Cancelled plans Next weekend, I was supposed to be reviewing a hotel. We were all going to be there for the weekend, including the dog. Whilst I was absolutely looking forward to it, there was also a small…

Do you find yourself looking forward to a different time of year when things will be a little quieter? In the run-up to the school summer holidays, I was longing for things to calm down. Every evening and weekend was packed full of plans. Then the holidays came and we filled virtually every day. Now that the children are back to school I’m into a routine again, but outside of school hours, it’s jam packed as usual. Reading and mum guilt When Libby started school, we used to sit down after school every day to read a book with her.…

I often feel that I’m wandering along through life without much purpose. I know what I need to do, but managing to do all of it and retain some semblance of sanity seems a bit too much. Things seem to be falling into place from a work standpoint this week, but it’s at the expense of getting as much exercise as I usually try to do. It all seems like such a juggle, but I suppose I need to get one thing right before moving on to the next. Blogon Toys 2019 For the past few years, I’ve been going…

Is there some unwritten rule of the space-time continuum stating that time always speeds up at the start of a school term? It seems like ages ago that the children went back. Now, their after school clubs are fully underway. I’ve finally got some time to myself again and my thoughts have already turned to half term. September sunshine I’m sure that September surprises me for the same reason every year. As autumn approaches, I always expect it to be cold. And it never is. Leaves are turning red, the nights are drawing in. I see shiny brown conkers on…

Isn’t it funny how the school holidays seem like such a long time ago? The girls only went back to school last Wednesday but we’re already back into our usual routine. I’m slowly catching up with work and everything seems a little easier. But that doesn’t stop us all from looking forward to half term. New challenges Every year, I tend to sign up for a challenge of some description. I’m terribly bad at motivating myself to exercise and the thought of failing to finish an event usually persuades me to do at least some training. Over the past few…

Just like that, the summer holidays are over. The children are back to school, the leaves on my favourite wall are turning red and there’s a distinct chill in the air. We’ve had a brilliant summer, making the most of every moment the girls were off school. Perhaps that’s why we’re all so ready for them to go back. Craving routine, time apart and a rest from all the chaos. New glasses For several years, Libby has been desperate for a certain style of glasses. Most of her friends wear the larger, chunkier frames that are fashionable at the moment.…

We’re into the home straight, the last full week of the school holidays. It has been brilliant. Chaotic, exciting, eventful and fun. Now though, I join the clamour of parents across the UK who are ready to get back to routine. I’m ready to have time to get my work done rather than fitting it in to the few minutes I have available. I’m ready for exercise, eating better and having time to myself. I’ll wave the summer a fond farewell and look forward to the autumn. Festival fun (tickets gifted) We spent the weekend at the Sunshine Festival which…
