After another week of exploring the UK in our camper van, the girls have had yet more brilliant experiences. We’ve also had our fair share of mud. Thankfully, by the time we arrived in Northumberland the weather was on the turn. Unfortunately, they’d had weeks of fairly terrible weather before we arrived so the campsite was like a bog.  Body boarding A few years ago, we bought the girls a cheap body board each for a beach holiday. Dressed in their wetsuits, off they went into the sea. I can’t remember how old they were at the time, but neither…

There’s something rather appealing about the unpredictability of the British weather. We’ve had a few days away this week, enjoying the scenery in Lake Bala. Of course it has rained, but I’m struggling to care. A stunning location, wild swimming a 30 second walk from our van. Spending our days outside with the odd dash indoors for a coffee or hot chocolate to escape the rain. It’s not everybody’s idea of relaxation, but we love it. Winding down You may have guessed from my blog that up until now, the school holidays have been somewhat busy. We’ve been loving every…

We’re nearing the end of our busiest fortnight of the school holidays. Since the girls finished school, we’ve had something booked in every single day. This continues until Sunday and on Monday, we’re off on holiday. We’re not lying on a beach holidayers, so we’ll undoubtedly be busy and active. But as yet, we have no plans. I can’t wait. The free day and the triathlon For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been quite looking forward to last Saturday. Nothing was booked in, so I thought we might stroll around a National Trust property with a picnic. Nothing too…

It seems ridiculous that under a week ago, the children were still at school. Since then, we’ve crammed so much in that I’m exhausted already. I’m managing to keep my head above water with work, but only just. It’s a great reminder though of how privileged I am to work from home. The girls have had one day at holiday club and have another day and a half lined up. But other than that, we’re enjoying the time off together. An education This week has been a bit of an education for the girls. It’s amazing how much they learn…

What a week. We’ve had a weekend break in Devon, the children have been in two stage shows. There’s been illness, awards, a birthday, a smack on the head and a lot of swimming. The last day of term can’t come soon enough for the girls who are absolutely exhausted. Personally though, I could do with a few more days of school. Just long enough to catch up on work and sleep before becoming a full-time children’s entertainer for six weeks. Stage shows and awards On Sunday, the girls took part in a stage show. They’d been practicing for months.…

Why is it that when everything seems to be going smoothly, something always comes along to throw a spanner in the works? This week, both girls have been struck down with a sickness bug at different times. Thankfully they’re over it and back to school now. It has been a while since we’ve had one in this house and I hope that’s the last for a while. School reports It’s that time of year again when teachers are handing out end of year reports. A little reassurance that school is going well. It’s not about the academic side of it…

As the children get older, I’m starting to get used to the times of year that are going to be busy. Christmas is a no brainer. Plays, shows, parties and events see us booked up most weekends. Yet if anything, the Summer is even busier. Something happens every weekend and most of the time, the events overlap. There’s one particular weekend this month that’s going to be so busy I’m starting to worry about it already. Something is bound to go wrong as we’re on such a tight schedule. And that’s despite having turned down more things than I can…
