It’s late afternoon on Christmas eve and the magic is building. Children run around the house, struggling to contain their excitement. Suddenly, one of them notices something. A wooden box, tucked under the Christmas tree among beautifully decorated gifts.

Prolonging the magic with a Christmas eve box

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always found Christmas to be a little bit of an anticlimax. The run-up to it is so exciting. Christmas days out, visits to friends and family and presents gathering under the tree. And then the day itself arrives and there’s a frenzy of wrapping paper, too much to eat, a few tantrums before bedtime and it’s over.

And as for Christmas eve, it’s a magical time. We always chat about Father Christmas coming and leave out a mince pie and some whiskey, along with a carrot for Rudolph. Yes, Father Christmas enjoys a whiskey in this house apparently.

When bedtime arrives, it’s a struggle. They’re highly strung and excited. There’s no way they want to go to sleep. So this year, we’re trying something different. I thought long and hard about what we could put in our Christmas eve box and I decided we’d use it as an opportunity to wind down before bed.

The chilled out Christmas eve box

My girls aren’t great at sitting still. Let’s face it, most children aren’t. But if they get into a good film, they’re happy to relax on the sofa. So, our prezzybox Christmas eve boxes will come out after dinner on Christmas eve.

Inside, they will each find a new pair of pyjamas, a Christmas film and a hot chocolate. I’ll put some sweets and chocolate in there as a little treat. And when they’ve opened them and changed into their pyjamas, I’ll put the film on. We’ll cuddle up on the sofa, drink hot chocolate and watch the film. The hope is that this will calm them down a bit before bedtime. Fingers crossed!

The prezzybox personalised Christmas eve chest

This Christmas eve box is made from light wood, so it’s easy for children to carry as long as you don’t put too much in it! It’s plenty big enough to fit in some new pyjamas and lovely treats. And the thing I love about it is that you can personalise it with the recipient’s name. Then you can reuse it every year to recreate the Christmas eve magic.

I love the fact that this is a reusable gift that can grow with the child. As they get older, I’m sure the things they want in there will change. But even when they grow out of really believing in the Christmas magic, there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of pampering and relaxation on Christmas eve.
