As always, the school holidays are whizzing past in the blink of an eye. My husband has muttered on several occasions that he feels like he’s had a busy week already and it’s not over yet. We left for our first short trip as soon as we picked the girls up from school. Spending Friday night having dinner at The Boxing Hare and staying at The Marlborough Arms was a gentle introduction to half term. Rain and rugby in the Cotswolds Unusually for us, we managed to time our half term plans to perfection in terms of the weather. It’s…

Isn’t it amazing how much better you feel when you take time to do something for yourself? Since starting to swim in the river last year, I’ve become more capable of taking time for me. I used to think that self-care had to be about a spa day or doing something relaxing. Wild swimming has made me realise that you don’t necessarily have to relax to de-stress. Blogging is a funny game. Until recently, I’d settled into a routine of publishing posts quite regularly. Most weekdays I’d post something and occasionally at the weekend. For the past couple of months though, I’ve been writing one post. It’s taking me ages because it’s a roundup post of dog friendly days out. I’m looking forward to getting back to normal when…

I’ve always been a serial over-committer. Do you want to do this? Yes, absolutely. Let’s do it. There’s never much of a thought process. Can I do it? Am I committing to a one-off event or months of training? Those thoughts only ever occur after I’ve said yes. It frequently leads to some brilliant adventures. It definitely leads to a chaotic lifestyle. Cancelled plans Next weekend, I was supposed to be reviewing a hotel. We were all going to be there for the weekend, including the dog. Whilst I was absolutely looking forward to it, there was also a small…

Do you find yourself looking forward to a different time of year when things will be a little quieter? In the run-up to the school summer holidays, I was longing for things to calm down. Every evening and weekend was packed full of plans. Then the holidays came and we filled virtually every day. Now that the children are back to school I’m into a routine again, but outside of school hours, it’s jam packed as usual. Reading and mum guilt When Libby started school, we used to sit down after school every day to read a book with her.…
