The funny thing about writing a regular weekly post is how much you notice the changes. What a different place the UK is from a week ago. With schools closing on Friday, most of us are becoming home educators. We are incredibly lucky that the children’s school are setting work online. They’ve also provided a suggested timetable, which is a great way to keep some structure to their days and mine. The singing competition Saturday suddenly seems like a really long time ago. After much speculation, the singing competition that Libby was due to take part in went ahead. She…

It’s a strange thing when most of your daily interactions are via social media rather than in person. I’m not glued to social media, but it does form a big part of my life. It’s one of the best ways to share blog content and interact with others who do similar work. Isn’t it strange how everything seems to take so much longer than anticipated? I’ve had some work postponed this week due to a problem with the client’s computer system. It seemed like the ideal time to make a start on decorating Libby’s bedroom. I thought I’d manage to get the sanding and filling done. The reality was a little different. Shopping I’ve never really been…

Sending the children back to school at the end of the holidays feels a bit like doing the long jump. After spending ages milling around, Monday mornings are the run up before take off. We always end up sprinting up the runway, combining our long jump with a trolley dash. Grabbing things from cupboards, finding lost water bottles or books and shoving things in bags as we sprint off ready for take off. I drop the girls off by pulling up outside the school. They leap out and run in, inevitably just before the gates close. And we’re back into…

As usual, half term is flying by. This time though, we’re taking things easy. We normally go away during the school holidays but for various reasons, we didn’t end up booking anything this week. As it turned out, that was absolutely the right decision. Since the weekend, the river level has risen dramatically around here. Residents of local towns have been evacuated. We are incredibly lucky here to be high up, so we have been fine. That said, we’ve been unable to get anywhere so going on holiday probably wouldn’t have happened. Reading for fun Both girls are relatively good…
