13 Dogs with a guilty secret

Man’s best friend, our trusted companions. The best company anyone could have. We invite them into our homes, our sofas and even our beds. But these dogs have a confession. I am an ambassador for Wagglepets who sort out everything my dogs need each month from food to treats to insurance (you can get 50% off your first box with code NATALIE50). When I chatted to the insurance company about my cover, they explained that I was covered for damage of up to £2 million. TWO MILLION POUNDS! How on earth can a dog do that much damage?? This means that I…

Dear Toddler

Dear toddler, Every day you’re learning. The world is bright, new and exciting and every day brings new joys and challenges. At the moment, you see everything with curious eyes. Each leaf, tree, butterfly, cow and tiny ant is a new discovery. Every day is a fresh start and a reason to smile. Each time we see each other, you laugh and I wag my tail to show you how much I love you. I was there when you took your first few steps. I was so pleased for you but I couldn’t explain. I tried to tell you but nobody…

Halloween ideas for the whole family

I’ve never been one for celebrating Halloween. My parents weren’t really into it so I never went trick or treating as a child. But last year, Libby went over to see family to do trick or treat. She had a witches costume and of course, she also took with her what every witch needs. A lion. And despite myself, I enjoyed it almost as much as Libby did. So this year, we’ll be making a bit more effort. My husband will be at home with us, so we thought it would be a good idea to do a few things…

Dear Puppy…

Dear Puppy, I’m sorry that the last couple of weeks have been tough. I wish I could promise it was going to get better soon, but I’m not so sure. The thing is, sometimes us humans get things wrong. We take on more than we can cope with and then when something goes wrong, we end up in a bit of a difficult position. And that’s what happened to us. First of all, you came into season so I couldn’t let you run around with other dogs. I still don’t want to risk doing that until you’ve been neutered so…

Goodbye little friend

They say friends come in all shapes and sizes, You certainly were proof of that. I never thought we’d all fall quite so in love, With such a funny old cat. Wherever we were, you’d be there. At home or out for a walk. You’d come to visit our relatives, Such tales to tell if cats could talk. Playing was your specialty, But you also loved a good fuss. You’d happily make friends with strangers, But your favourite was being with us. Don’t tell me that children don’t need pets, I can easily prove that they do. We’re so sorry…

#GetADog

It bothers me that children spend too much time in front of screens and I’ve often written about what positive role models my pets are for our children. So when I saw this video from the Dogs Trust #GetADog campaign, I instantly loved it. It’s less than a minute long and well worth a watch. Of course, getting a dog is a huge decision and not one to be taken lightly. It’s a lot of responsibility. It’s expensive. But so is an iPhone. The Dogs Trust have recently carried out a survey. Of those people who had a dog as a child, 93 per cent…

Social creatures

I often hear the phrase that we are “social creatures.” Apparently, we’re also relatively intelligent. So why is it that we get social interaction so wrong? If two dogs don’t like each other, they make it abundantly clear. They might snarl at each other, run away, walk past ignoring each other or even fight. What they don’t do is waste time pretending to like each other. When you see two dogs that like each other, they can pick each other out from opposite sides of a field. They greet each other, play together and enjoy each other’s company. But yet, I…
