Shopping online

When I was at uni, I used to really enjoy going shopping. Back in the late 90’s that’s pretty much what student loans were for after all. Oh yeah, that and paying for my social life.  Since then, my shopping trips have reduced year on year, in a similar way to my social outings. (Social outings? I’m so shocked that I just used that phrase that I can’t even delete it. I’m only 34, not 94, honest).  These days, I shop almost exclusively online. It’s less time consuming, cheaper and quite frankly less annoying. You may or may not have…

Good food on a time budget

I quite enjoy cooking. I wouldn’t say I’m a culinary genius, but I like to cook something nice every now and then.  This is one of my favourite times of year for cooking because there is wild garlic growing everywhere. I remember loving the smell of it as a child but being told it wasn’t edible.  These days, I am rather more aware of its culinary uses. It has an appearance and texture like spinach and offers similar health benefits. And yet it gives any dish a lovely, subtle garlic flavour.  Hence I’d decided to cook with it this weekend before…

Bedtime stories on the decking

This evening, Libby asked if we could eat dinner outside. It was such a lovely evening that I couldn’t possibly refuse.  And having spent a large proportion of the day outside, it seemed a shame to waste the last part of it and head straight back in afterwards.  So we spent some time outside with some new books.  Libby has recently started to really understand and follow stories. Which is a relief in many ways because it makes her more inclined to listen, but we do now tend to get stuck on the favourite book on repeat.  New books are…

An Easter soft play treat

It’s rather odd I think, as a parent to two pre-school age children, that I always wonder what we’re going to do with ourselves during the Easter holidays.  During term time, it’s so easy to know what to do with the girls. There is an activity going on every day, then various other things come up for a break from our usual routine.  In the Easter holidays though, all their little activities stop. I have to keep them busy in the mornings so that they sleep in the afternoon, otherwise my work time goes out of the window.  Our default…

Learning about the world

It may be a surprise to people who have only known me since having children to learn that pre-kids, both hubby and I did quite a bit of travelling. I’ve done several stints of travelling, some with hubby or with friends and some on my own. Both of us have friends and family in various far flung locations, and we are itching to get back to seeing the world.  I know that a lot of people travel with young children, but I personally would prefer to wait until the girls will get something out of it. At the moment, UK…
