Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic: review
[AD press tickets]
This year, Disney on Ice are celebrating 100 years of magic. The shows on this tour feature an incredible 50 favourite Disney characters. It felt a little more fragmented than previous shows because there are more stories than ever. However, there are so many favourite songs that this didn’t matter at all. The show was presented by Mickey and a few friends as they explored iconic Disney stories from the past 100 years.
100 Years of Magic: The Show
From the moment Mickey and Minnie came on the ice to introduce Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic, the whole show was upbeat and full of energy. It was a celebration of love with numerous Disney couples taking to the stage to dance together. Forky from Toy Story 4 made his debut in an adorable sketch alongside Woody and other Toy Story favourites.
Along with new characters, there were a few we weren’t aware of. None of us have ever seen Mulan, so the fabulous brief story of this had us all looking forward to watching it.
Of course, old favourites made an appearance too. It wouldn’t be Disney on Ice without Frozen, and as always the story of Elsa and Anna was told, complete with a happy ending. Beauty and the Beast skated on to tell a tale of true love, resulting in the beast returning to the form of a prince.
Some older characters from Disney films make an appearance too, many of whom I haven’t seen in Disney on Ice before. Pinocchio was a firm favourite with the audience, as were Timon and Pumbaa with their classic hakuna matata song. I’m always really impressed with the way big characters move on the ice. This year, my favourite was the huge turtle from Finding Dory.
Disney on Ice: What you need to know
- How long is Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic? From start to finish, we were in there for just under two hours. This included an interval at half time.
- What age children is Disney on Ice suitable for? We’ve been going to Disney on Ice twice a year since Lia was about 18 months old. Both girls have always been completely captivated by it and I’ve never felt they were too young to go. However, we did notice a few people around us with younger children leaving before the end today. I think it very much depends on the child and how much music and dancing holds their attention.
- Is it cold watching Disney on Ice? Don’t be misled by the fact that the show takes place at an ice rink. Whilst the temperature can be colder than outside, we all took our coats off and enjoyed it without feeling chilly.
- Is Disney on Ice fun for adults? Whilst I probably wouldn’t go to Disney on Ice as an all-adult group, lots of people do. I love it every time and will be genuinely disappointed if the girls ever grow out of it.
- Can I bring snacks and drinks into Disney on Ice? Snacks and drinks can’t be brought into the arena but can be purchased inside. That said, I had a couple of reusable water bottles in my bag and they weren’t confiscated when my bag was searched.
- Where is the best place to sit to watch Disney on Ice? We’ve sat in numerous places and always had a great view. However, rink side seats are definitely the best. Failing that, I would go for the middle of the first tier.
- Can I bring a camera to Disney on Ice? Cameras are fine as long as they’re not large, professional cameras with tripods.
- What to wear for Disney on Ice: Wear whatever you’re comfortable in. Some people dress up, particularly children. Some adults dress up too but many children and adults are in normal clothes.
