Jameson Irish Whiskey and Newspaper Gift Set Review [AD]

The one thing most of us have in common when we’re Christmas shopping is an awkward recipient. The person who already has everything. They probably say that they don’t want anything. Often, consumables are a good bet for someone like that. If you know what they love to eat or drink then the gift definitely won’t go to waste. The Historic Newspapers Jameson Irish Whiskey and Newspaper Gift Set takes that idea one step further. It combines a bottle of triple distilled Jameson Irish Whiskey with a newspaper from the day they were born.

About Historic Newspapers

Having been the most popular UK archive for thirty years, Historic Newspapers own the biggest original British newspaper collection in the world. Their papers allow customers to explore the past with original newspapers dated from 1900 onwards. Each one becomes a treasured keepsake and a fascinating insight into years gone by.

A genuine original newspaper from the day a person was born is in incredibly thoughtful gift. Alternatively, recipients may prefer another date that is relevant to them. Searching on the website is easy. Simply put in the date you are looking for to see what newspapers were published on that day. Next, choose the newspaper you prefer and your presentation option.

A bottle of triple distilled Jameson, champagne or chocolates in a beautiful display case with the newspaper really adds to the effect. Your recipient will be in good company too, since Historic Newspapers are used by documentary makers, museum exhibitions and historians to find out what life was like during a particular era. Historic Newspapers have also donated newspapers to schools for pupils to gain a real insight into major events from the demise of the Titanic to the World Wars.

In case you were wondering, my dad is my awkward recipient. The difficult thing with him is that he genuinely doesn’t want anything. It makes sense. There’s nothing he needs, so why bother? And yet, when one of us buys him something he appreciates, he is absolutely delighted. That one gift always makes up for years of mediocre presents that have been given with the best possible intentions. And I am convinced that the Jameson Irish Whiskey and Newspaper Gift Set will be that gift.

For the newspaper, I have gone for a copy of the News Chronicle. A national newspaper from the day he was born. I won’t tell you his age but suffice to say it’s not a recent newspaper. In fact, I was impressed at the number of newspapers available from the day my dad was born. My choices were the Nottingham Evening Post, Nottingham Guardian, Evening News, Daily Express – Scottish Edition, Daily Mail – Scottish Edition, Manchester Guardian, News Chronicle or the Sporting Chronicle.

Historic Newspapers tell you a bit about each paper they have. After much deliberation, I decided on the News Chronicle. It arrived in a lovely black gift box with a crest and “JUST FOR YOU” on the front. The box is lined with black satin and contains both the newspaper and a full sized bottle of Jameson whiskey. It also contains a certificate of authenticity for the newspaper, confirming that it is an original publication not a reproduction.

This is a really lovely gift. It’s well presented and the recipient will definitely know that you’ve really thought about it. I can’t wait to give it to my dad at Christmas.
