Family Travel Tips #16

Well half term is finally upon us. Does anybody have exciting plans? We’ve got a couple of days out booked in, but no big trips as my husband is back on crutches. The theme for half term days out is definitely Halloween this year. Is it just me or is it becoming more of a thing in the UK than it used to be? I’m looking forward to hearing what everyone has been up to over the past couple of weeks. Featured posts We had a wonderfully diverse array of posts link up last time. People have been visiting places…

Family travel tips #15

Welcome to another Autumnal Family Travel Tips. It has been a manic few weeks for us with days out all over the place. I must admit though, I’m rather looking forward to half term when we can either get away for a few days or mix exciting days out with a bit of down time! I’ve loved reading about elephants in Sri Lanka and I’ve been totally inspired to visit Slovenia. But…

12 things you need to know about cycling in the Forest of Dean

Two seasoned mountain bikers stopped beside the trail for a drink. Covered in mud and exhausted from pushing themselves, they watched as a tiny tot pedalled past. The beauty of the Forest of Dean cycle tracks is that they really do cater for everyone. Here’s what you need to know before you pump up the tyres and head for the hills. 1. Featured posts Perhaps it’s due to the summer holidays, but last weeks posts were all really exciting. There was one in particular though that I found incredibly inspirational. This post…

Family fun at Drayton Manor Park

From the bottom of the big wheel at Drayton Manor Park, I glanced over at the fast rollercoaster. There, on the front seat, was a familiar little face. Suddenly, they were off. Backwards up the track to the top of the hill. A short pause and whoosh! They accelerated past me, the tiny little figure on the front seat with her eyes closed, clutching her aunty’s hand. Thomas Land at Drayton Manor Park To young children, Drayton Manor Park means Thomas Land. And in school holidays, it’s busy. There are reasonably long queues for all the rides, but they’re worth the wait. We headed…

10 tips for visiting Kielder Forest in Northumberland

We bundled the kids and dogs into the car and set off on a mammoth drive to Kielder Forest. After setting up camp at the beautiful Kielder Village Campsite, we embarked on an epic battle with mud, rain and midges. Here are our top tips for visiting Kielder Forest. 1. Be prepared for the Kielder Forest midges We thought we were prepared for the midges. We had both cream and spray repellant with us and we knew we’d need to keep the tent doors closed to avoid letting them in at night. But this really wasn’t enough. Our first mistake was that the insect…
