As I write, the cat is under the tree trying to unwrap the remaining Christmas presents so he can play with the string. The girls had everything they wanted for Christmas except for a horse. I’ve heard Santa didn’t have space on his sleigh. Maybe next year girls. You’ll have to make do with Bubbles and Rupert for now. Time to relax I’ve never been particularly good at just stopping. I’m usually doing something for work, whether that’s writing, messing around on social media or just catching up with some admin. This time of year is always a relief though.…

Christmas holidays are in sight. Between them in the past week, the girls have done a nativity play, four ballet shows and a carol concert. We’ve all watched one pantomime and Libby has watched two. They’ve both been swimming twice and had a piano lesson. They’ve both auditioned for their school end of term concert and been chosen to sing on their own. School Christmas jumper day and Christmas lunch somehow slotted in there and today is their Christmas party. Even by our standards, it’s been a busy week. Next December, can someone please remind me not to take on more stuff just because work is calming down? As a blogger, the end of the year is always relatively quiet. There’s the odd Christmas review or day out and subsequent write-up. There are emails to respond to and things to add to Christmas gift guides. Realistically though, most people are done for the year. So I could be winding down, relaxing and getting ongoing admin done. Instead, I’m moving furniture and attempting to redecorate. I’ll never learn. “I’m not interested in politics” When I was younger, I didn’t know…

It’s that time of year again when time speeds up. We’re galloping towards Christmas at an alarming rate. There are presents to buy, performances to attend, festive press trips to go on and write up. Rehearsals, carol services, nativities, ballet shows, school Christmas fair… the list goes on. So of course, I’ve made my own life more difficult by starting some DIY. Winter days out with the National Trust We’ve had an annual National Trust membership since the children were tiny. We might even have had one before they were born. I frequently mention on here that I’m sure it’s…

Every year, Autumn comes as a surprise. That sounds ridiculous. It’s not a surprise that it arrives, I know it’s coming. But I love summer. I enjoy the warm weather, days out paddle boarding, surfing, wild swimming and being around the water. Family time while the girls are off school. Long, hot evenings sitting outside in dusky light until late. So, I dread autumn. I think about the grey days, the rain, the cold. Spending less time outdoors, being busy getting ready for Christmas and ferrying the girls around to shows and parties. Then when autumn actually arrives, I remember…
