Things to do in Worcestershire October half term and Halloween 2023

There are some lovely things to do in Worcestershire and the surrounding areas this October half term and Halloween. This is a comprehensive list of days out in Worcestershire, as well as other activities such as pumpkin picking. You can jump straight to each one using the links in the table below. Please do let me know if I’ve missed any brilliant events off the list, I’d be happy to add them in. Advance booking is essential at all attractions unless otherwise stated.

All Things Wild Worcestershire October half term

It’s all about the cobwebs and cauldrons at All Things Wild this October half term. Take a stroll down an eerie alley, meet creepy critters, help to defeat wicked witches, stir up a potion and do a spot of grave digging. Dressing up is actively encouraged with prizes for the best outfits. Visitors will also have access to the rest of the All Things Wild attractions. Attwell Farm Park

It’s time to embrace the autumnal magic at Attwell Farm Park this October half term. Enjoy the cauldrons and cobwebs event with pumpkin carving, creepy crawlies, ghosts, ghostbusters and witches. Further details are on the Atwell website

Dates: 17th October to 5th November 2023. 

Bodenham Arboretum

Visitors can enjoy a pumpkin walk at Bodenham Arboretum this October half term. Choose between a stroll during the daytime or a torch-lit pumpkin walk after dark. Venture around the big pool and farmyard, looking at the carved pumpkins. Evening tickets include a fancy dress competition, Halloween crafts, scary stories and campfire cooking. Different activities take place during the daytime including crafts and wilderness explorers on different dates. From 1st to 5th November, there will be a Guy Fawkes twist to the pumpkin walk. You’ll need to book in advance and remember to wrap up warm and dress for the weather. They encourage people to wear fancy dress, although this may need to go over your warm clothes depending on the weather. Hartlebury Castle

Two events take place at Hartlebury Castle this October half term – a Witch and Wizard School and Halloween pumpkin carving. Wear fancy dress and head to the craft area to make a wand. Then, head to the Great Hall where Professor Bumbledum will be leading spell practice. Follow the magic pumpkin trail as you explore the castle after completing the activities. Visitors can also choose a pumpkin, scoop out the middle and draw a design on it. Pumpkin carvers are on hand to cut out your design for you. Little Owl Farm Park

It’s all about trick or treat this October half term at Little Owl Farm Park. In addition to the usual fun activities at the farm, visitors can take a tractor journey to the pumpkin paddocks where they can pick their own pumpkin. Venture into the scary tunnel of terror, decorate your own chocolate apple and find hidden letters to discover a Halloween themed word. If you decide to dress for the occasion, you can take part in the daily fancy dress competition. Full activity details and booking information are on the Little Owl website.

Severn Valley Railway Worcestershire October half term

Two Halloween events take place at Severn Valley Railway this October half term. Choose between family fun on the ghost train, or a decidedly frightening experience on the scream train. Full details and booking information for both events are on the Severn Valley Railway website. Tickets must be booked in advance. 

Ghost Train

It’s all aboard the Ghost Train at Severn Valley Railway this half term. Start off your evening at Kidderminster station, then find your reserved seats and ride the ghost train into the night. Look out for scary characters sneaking around in the corridors as you pass haunted stations en route to Arley. There’s a free Halloween goody bag for children and the experience lasts for around 75 minutes.  

Scream Train

Those aged over 18 who are feeling brave might prefer to board the Scream Train. Your evening starts at Kidderminster station’s King & Castle pub. Then, head to platform 1 to board the train, but look out for something lurking in the darkness. Severn Valley Railway advise holding tight to the handrail and locking the door to your compartment, because there’s something coming to get you. The experience lasts for around 75 minutes.

Spetchley Park

Step through the wardrobe at Spetchley Park Estate and help to rescue the gardens from the White Witch. Meet Lucy and join her for a cup of tea with Mr Tumnus. Then, follow the Turkish Delight trail to locate Edmund and return Autumn to Spetchley. Live, interactive performances take place throughout the Spetchley grounds. Visitors will need to book a performance slot and arrive 15 minutes before your allocated time. Full details are on the Spetchley website

Dates: 30th October to 3rd November 2023. 

West Midlands Safari Park Worcestershire October half term

West Midlands Safari Park will have a spooky spectacular running this October half term. With hundreds of pumpkins in the pumpkin patch and Halloween decorations galore, visitors will feel truly autumnal. Meet new character Mitzy the monster as he hosts a live silly science show. Pumpkin scarecrow Patch will be meeting guests and the silly scientists will be entertaining guests as well. Follow a free spooky trail to help locate missing potion ingredients. Find all the items to win a special treat. Don’t forget to ride the spooky VR ride and stay late on selected dates to experience the rides and dinosaur area after dark. Dates: 21st October to 5th November 2023. If you want to experience the safari park after dark, moonlight tickets are available on 28th and 29th October.

Witley Court Worcestershire October half term

Grab a broomstick and head to Witley Court for spooky storytelling of family-friendly tales in the creepy gardens. Storytellers Ursula and Nicodemus are on hand to tell you all about the supernatural in medieval times. Find out about the early days of science and how to use magic to protect yourself from all things sinister and cure the sick. There’s a Halloween quest to find the ingredients for a magic potion. Complete all the activities and solve the clues to become an apprentice witch. Full details are on the Witley Court website. Advance booking is not essential, but it will be cheaper.
