What’s on West Midlands January 2016

Back in November, I wrote about ten amazing Christmas days out in the West Midlands. A lot of people found it quite helpful, so I thought I’d follow it up with what’s on West Midlands January 2016. If you have an event that you would like me to include for January 2016 or subsequent months, please do get in touch. Friday 1 January 10.00 The Valley, Evesham, Worcestershire: Dirt run and junior dirt run – 10km for adults, 3km for juniors. In aid of St Richard’s Hospice. 14.30 Symphony Hall, Birmingham: Johan Strauss Gala – orchestra and dancers. Saturday 2 January…

Our Thursday photo #85

As usual, the past week has been chaos. We’re still playing catch up a bit in terms of finances since the time off I had to take after my husband’s accident. This has meant that I haven’t managed to take time off work over Christmas. I do love being freelance and working from home is the best decision I ever made, but times like this make me realise that it’s far from the easy way out. That said, I’ve made it to all of the children’s parties, events and plays and we’ve had amazing days out together that I never…

9 beautiful things that happened in 2015

2015 has been a difficult year for many people, myself included. There have been countless tragedies around the world and as the year draws to a close, there is a tendency to write it off as a bad year. So I wanted to take stock and look at these 9 beautiful things that happened in 2015. These random acts of kindness prove that actually, people are quite nice really. 1. Helping out a damsel in distress I’m going to start with my friend Chris, a blogger at Life of Medals. You’ll see why in a minute. Earlier this year, Chris saw…

Hogwarts in the snow with toddlers: Review

Last week, we were lucky enough to go to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, London to see Hogwarts in the Snow. I have always loved the Harry Potter books and was really impressed with the film adaptation of it so the studio tour appealed to me. However, my girls are very young. They have both watched little bits of the Harry Potter films and quite enjoyed them, but they’re not old enough to be really into them. I did wonder how much they would enjoy the studio tour. There was another problem too – my husband is still unable to…

5 steps to your vintage home

For many of us, the interiors of the future will be inspired by the past. At the moment, so many homes are full of monochrome with rather flimsy, modern furniture but this trend will soon pass as fashions wax and wane like the moon. Conversely, the vintage look never really goes away. It has already stood the test of time and it will continue to do so. Here are 5 steps to your vintage home, whatever your budget. 1. Family heirlooms I work from a beautiful vintage desk with a genuine captain’s chair. I’ve had it since I moved into my house…

Last minute Christmas gift ideas!

Don’t panic, it’s not too late! I have loved reading everybody’s nice, early Christmas gift guides. It’s been brilliant to see that all my friends have been out shopping, hit the internet and generally done what they needed to do to get organised for Christmas. Sadly, there are people like me everywhere who just aren’t that organised. And yet, I don’t want to buy just any old thing because I what I lack in organisational skills, I make up for in ethics. So, for the disorganised masses here are some ethical last minute Christmas gift ideas. 1. Head over to…

Our Thursday Photo #84

This year has been the first time I’ve really realised how busy we’re going to be as the children get older. I’ve always been keen to encourage the girls to get involved with any interests and activities that appeal to them. Whether that be team sports like rugby, netball or water polo or other pastimes like playing musical instruments, running, dancing, drama or underwater basket weaving if that’s what they’re into. I knew this would mean that things were busy but I didn’t anticipate it starting quite so soon. Last weekend, Libby was in three shows with her drama group.…
