Birthday weeks are always fun in our house. This year has been particularly exciting, since the girls decided they didn’t want a party. So instead there was cake, shopping and sushi. Definitely a winning combination for a birthday weekend. Milestone birthdays When I think of milestone birthdays, five doesn’t spring to mind. One, ten, thirteen, sixteen and eighteen are the big ones for children. These days, four is more relevant than five as most kids start school at four. For Lia though, being five is a milestone. She remembers Libby being five and Libby is BIG in Lia’s eyes. She’s…

As the Easter holidays came screeching to a halt, we all tumbled back into our usual routine for a rest. I’m not really a people person. This week though, the support from friends, family and people I’ve never met was incredible. Before, during and after the London Marathon, those people made the experience one I’ll always remember. A weekend in London It came as a bit of a shock last October when I got a ballot place for the London Marathon. A winter of running followed, cumulating in a 17 mile run a few weeks ago. That was the furthest…

Why is it that we worry about school holidays until they arrive? The change in routine, the lack of time to work and of course, coping with the children. When they’re in full swing though, I always wonder what I was worried about. In fact, this has been one of my favourite school holidays ever. A few days away On Friday, we packed up the van and headed off for a last minute break in Wales. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. We met some lovely people on the campsite and the girls spent most of the time playing…

After last week’s hectic schedule, it has been nice to take a step back from all the chaos over the past few days. Instead of having our usual family day out on Saturday, we baked a cake and walked to the local pub for lunch. The girls were going a bit stir crazy by the end of the day, but it was nice not to be rushing around for a change. Parent’s evening With the end of term comes parents evening as always. I have been pleasantly surprised by Libby’s parents evenings since she’s had her current teacher. She’s always…

I wouldn’t class myself as someone who has a problem with saying no. I prefer to think of it as taking opportunities as they arrive. In weeks like this though, I do sometimes wonder if I take on too much. For now though, the children seem to be enjoying their chaotic week. I’ve worked late a few nights, but I seem to be managing to fit everything in. The cross country run Last year, Libby took part in the school cross country run. She’s never been a particularly fast runner, but she has great stamina and can keep going for…

Isn’t it a strange rule of life that everything happens at the same time? I can go months without socialising and then suddenly find myself a social butterfly for a week or two. This has been one of those weeks. A trip to London and a punch on the nose On Tuesday, I went to London to the Situp event for travel brands and influencers. It was a fascinating day. I caught up with friends I don’t see often enough, met new people and chatted to brands and tourist boards about some incredible destinations. I was a bit apprehensive before…

Is anybody else suffering with the mornings getting lighter? Libby seems to wake up with the light and can’t get back to sleep. She is also incapable of not waking Lia up, so they’re both up early and Lia is permanently exhausted. Buying blackout curtains for their room is a priority. Spring After the warm weather we had in February, the past few weeks have been a bit of a shock. Back to Winter coats and jumpers. It seemed perfect timing for the sun to return yesterday, on the first day of spring. I’m hoping Spring is here to stay…
