For the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to get into the habit of discussing gratitude with the children. Libby in particular often doesn’t realise how lucky she is. She has a strong sense of injustice if she feels like she’s being hard done by. So, it’s a useful exercise to stop and think about all the good things that are going on. Gratitude We were chatting about what we were thankful for yesterday over dinner and it got me thinking as well. Since Christmas, I’ve been running once or twice a day. It’s mainly to get ready for my…

After a rather lengthy run-up period, I’ve kicked back into work mode. Last year, I cut right back on my freelance work to focus on my blog and Instagram. Twelve months on, I’ve realised that as an income stream, it’s too unreliable. When I did my tax returns, what I was paid each month varied by a huge amount, far too much to plan for. Additionally, I’ve had real problems getting people to pay on time. So, I’ve gone back to some reliable freelance work that always pays at the same time each month. I’ll still carry on with my…

For the first time in a long time, there’s a half term approaching and we don’t have any plans. My husband has used all his leave so we won’t be going away for the week. We may manage a few days but for the majority of the time, we’ll be staying local. I also feel that a few quiet days will be just what we need. Hidcote Gardens We’ve had a National Trust membership…

With the last piece of Christmas cake and mince pie consumed, the children trotted off back to school. And just like that, the holidays were over. It’s amazing how quickly we snap back into a routine. Creating new habits This year, I’m trying to do things a bit differently. I’ve picked up some more editing work so I need to keep the days free for that. So, I’m running first thing in the morning before my husband goes to work, then again in the evening before dinner. I’ve never really run more than once a day before, but I needed…

New year is a funny time. I always feel ready to get back into a routine, particularly in terms of eating healthily. Yet with the children off school and a few other things happening, it’s difficult to get back to normal. This year, whilst we’re still not eating particularly well we’ve at least managed to get plenty of exercise and fresh air. Westonbirt Arboretum A few years ago, my husband took Libby to Westonbirt Arboretum, about an hour’s drive from where we live. It’s a national collection of trees with trails for children to follow, a treetop walkway and lovely…
